I don't own this game but seeing the online game makes me wonder why everyone is so crazy about a game that has been around for decades and is now considered a classic in Asia just like poker or blackjack.

The original name of this game is BIG TWO as the 2 is the highest ranked card in the original game - don't know about the gang of four but the rules are identical.

Interesting to know if Days of Wonder actually tried to patent this game as its already in the public domain for decades.

The Big 2 I learned isn't really the same game! There are a great bunch of differences ... like to revolution, no full house and other pocker variants.

--- I'm sorry - I checked and you are right, it is almost the same game despite of the different card set (3 colors vs. 4 colors).

The first two paragraphs of the rulebook flatout state that this game is a variant of a traditional Chinese card game. The description on the back of the box states the same thing. There's even a section in the rulebook "Chinese Style of Play" that describes some of the traditional customs of the game.

There's no conspiracy going on here. Days of Wonder made it abundantly clear that this is a variant of a traditional game. So what's your point with this thread?
