Epic Final combat problem Mon, 15 March 2010 20:53
Hi,

last game we played we faced an unseen problem. Two players, at the last turn, decided to face pirate of legend BlackBeard but both player lost the duel to him. So, both boats hull needed repairs. Since it was the last turn, we had to declare a winner and both player (who've lost against Blackbeard) ended the game in a tie. We had to setup a final fight...with damaged boats. We decided to allow them to repair the damaged section as if it was a regular round on pirate's cove. The question we asked ourselves though, was: do we allow them to draw cards before the final fight since we allowed them to repair their boats?

Sounds like a time for your own house rule, since you had to create one for the final battle idea. Sounds like an epic ending to a great game!! Very Happy

Sure was Smile We decided to allow them to repair hull but not draw cards. Once hull was repaired, it was a 5 dices against 2 dices combat with tie speed...They throw a single dice to know which would attack first and the 5 dices attacker was declared the fastest for the first round. We all thought that it was pretty over since five dices could easily beat a boat we two hull section...player throws dices: one hit Smile lol...now second player can throw his dices and he also needs two hits on opponent hull to win. He's not very confident with his two dices attack. He throws: bang! Two hits Game over. I think this was the tightest game we ever played Smile

Nice! Smile The last time I played Pirate's Cove it was with two other players (so a 3-player game) and our first 4 turns we all ended up at the same islands!!

It worked out pretty well because each time someone different won (though I won twice) so no player just pulled away completely. It was our own little version of the epic sea battle...but not as intense as your final showdown. Cool

Sounds like it was an epic battle. It seems to me that once defeated by Blackbeard you end up at the Pirate's Cove as part of the same turn, make repairs, draw cards/gold etc. Then the game is over and you deal with the tie. Isn't that the case? That the repairs at the Pirate's cove is part of the same round?
cheers,
m

hehe...I think you're entirely right. Turn was not over yet so they were allowed to repair and draw. If it ever happens again, we'll know what to do. Seems so simple now that you point it out. (shame on us)

thanks Smile
