 How do I turn off the music?

Please, can anyone tell me if there's a way to shut off that gawd awful music that plays as soon as I start up Small World on my iPad 2? Surely there's a toggle somewhere.

On the side of the iPad there is a button that you can push up or down...it controls the volume, and by pressing it down repeatedly or holding it for a little longer, you can mute the sound.  
Sorry, I couldn't resist!! 
Actually, now that you mention it I don't think there is any way to turn off the music except by turning down (or off) the volume.   If you simply start a game right away the music doesn't continue during the game, at least.
