No, no, no, Eric! Your scenarios are near perfection and your rules are perfectly explained as well. Please, keep that way Smile
It's up to us to study the maps and their rules, to play at the best of our capabilities!

About the Infiltration German unit, I can't see a more useful role to it than to guarantee a medal by escaping from the map. It never crossed my mind to actually go and infiltrate Very Happy

No no, Eric, I think the rules and exceptions do add to the scenarios. They do give them flavour and make them more interesting.

I do think that your scenarios cannot be "owned"/understood the first time you play them. To play your scenarios well, you need to play them several times to really "get" them. Which, according to me, is fine. Cool

The Capture of Troina I only managed to squeeze in just the one battle against Hermann before facing sdnative. So I could/should have done my homework better. Smile

Not to take anything away from the victory of sdnative, but I might have lost more stylish with a better preparation. Very Happy

Eric,

We all like a lot your scenarios (if I believe different exchanges I've got with others players). Tacticals possibilities are rich, due in part to your specific rules. So, yes, we all have to take care to not forget them when playing, but it's easy to read rules during games if a doubt appears.

So, don't change anything from my point of view, I enjoy so much your scenarios like that.

The evil Axis forces are trying to take revenge for the defeat we gave them at El Alamein. This must not happen. Mad

All our hope (and two points) rest with Eric himself. Let's see him use those wadi's to good advantage and sneak up on those unsuspecting ski-dudes who should be out of their depth without snow. Wink

Don't you dare run away Droopy! Twisted Evil

First of all, I agree with what you say : don't change anything Eric, your maps are very nice to play ! The many rules only add to their quality, creating only more strategic possibility ! And that's great !

That said, back to the campaign. And I'm happy to report a total victory of Axis Very Happy !

The score between Eric and me was 1/8. Eric has 10% less than I on inf (52/42%) and on armor (35/25%) and that made a difference, especially in the beginning where it was crucial.

As you asked General Jeronimon, I did not run away Wink.

But the score doesn't reflect the game very well.

Eric started strongly on his left side, where my arty was. Problem is he didn't manage to finish the inf he was targetting. So after the loss of the isolated soldier in the town, I managed with only 2 inf and the help of my arty to resist his push.

He had a clear lack of luck here and it changed the match.

Cause when he came in close combat, after patiently advancing his army and taking the medal city in the center, a center assault welcomed him and made a lot of dammage : his armor, which were about to finish 2 one fig inf, in 6 dices... and 2 inf fig in the town.
I pushed on in the center and finally got 2 more medals, killing the inf unit in the town and a 4th armor.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=32 685379#replay:turn=1

A very pleasant match Very Happy. Thx to Eric !

Well done Axis ! We all did well. I think we are taking the lead 20 to 17 !
Don't rest on this success though, we still have difficult battles ahead ! Take some time to savour victory tonight, then the scouting of the new battlefield will begin tomorrow ! Be sharp and attentive Wink.

Well done again Very Happy !

Axis will win Twisted Evil Very Happy

Goodness gracious, what a defeat! To tell you the truth I thought I was doing well for a while. I had mostly left flank cards and had to attack there. (I think the best strategy is to first advance the Allied right flank as much as possible.) I managed to reduce both inf. to 1 figure and drive back his arty to the baseline. Then, even though I still had cards on this flank I just couldn't hit anything. Damien manuevered his troops to the center in anticipation of using his Assault All Units card and that pretty much was it.

Anyway, the next and final battle in Sicily is now available;
'Breaking the Etna Line'. Unfortunately, for the Allies, it will be another tough test. Good luck to all and have fun.

Always enjoyable Artimon - other than that ring of what appears to be wine staining my good table linen...

The game started with an Allied push from its right flank - fortunately, the Axis were loaded up on that flank also. The Axis overcame an early ( pathetically ) low hit rate - seemingly all in one turn, and were able to hold - and advance the left.

An Allied advance on their left was halted by a devastating Armor Assualt. While the Allied forces dealt with the advancing Tiger on that flank ( the tiger unit dodged a lot of close calls - at one point seeming to get up and fly to avoid a hit ) the Axis were able to lock down the center with a push by their regular armor and Ski troops.

The Axis continued to take advantage of the Allies' inability to respond to movement on its right and center, playing back to back DFHQ cards and sweeping that half of the board, and finally exiting a unit for the win.

Well, the first battle in the final Sicilian campaign is in the books. The Allies have broken the momentum of the Axis onslaught. It took great cards and great dice to achieve victory. The final score was Allies (LooneyLlama)8 and Axis (JayKay) 2. The turning point was after a Behind Enemy Lines left my engineer 1 hex short of Messina (JayKay played an ambush card with only one hit and a retreat), JayKay had 6 dice to wipe out the 3 figure unit but only got 1 hit. After moving into Messina on the next turn, the cards and dice just kept coming.

General Jeronimon,

Hopefully my victory will spur on the troops to attain new heights! Go Allies!

General Jeronimon,

I'm glad to announce our flag is now on the top of Etna Mount. Victory was mainly ensured by the heroic sacrifice of our commandos who have taken Messina town (thanks to the BEL card !) at the beginning of the battle

Score : Clorifila - 5 medals vs Artimon - 8 medals

Well played by Artimon, a handful (too many?) of mistakes by myself resulted in a perfectly fair victory for the allies.
Let's see: 1) forgot basic rule about contiguous hills and line of sight; 2) retreated infantry in the wrong direction; 3) engaged in a suicidal lonely charge with my left-flank armor; 4) somehow skipped or missed escaping with Artillery the first time; 5) did not bother to occupy Messina asap - and I had the chance!...
No doubt, too many mistakes...

Congratulations to Artimon and sorry about the reschedules and delays!

Happy to report that I have put a stop to an apparent Allied sweep !!

This battle was decided mostly by dice ( in fact in both games, the Axis out rolled the Allies by more than 20 percentage points, and the final match score was decided by exactly one figure ).

Nonetheless, this was a hard fought battle with solid strategic decisions - Thanks Luc - look forward to our next meeting.

( Oh my - look at those cards Luc started with ! )

Excellent game gentlemen! It's nice to follow the strategy for these games. I think Artimon and I were fortunate to get the Behind Enemy Lines card and take Messina. I was really lucky that my engineer wasn't wiped out before entering the city. In designing this scenario, I wanted the Axis to be very concerned about that possibility and either block the road or get a unit in the city as soon as possible. The Allies can take shots at the single artillery figure to help in their assault, especially by moving their mobile arty up, though that may be taking a chance due to the odds. Hopefully, one of us(Allies) can win without the BEL card.

Anyway, there are 2 battles left before we move on to mainland Italy. Don't forget to vote for your favorite 3 scenarios.

Hi !

The match between Jeronimon and me finally took place earlier today.
It could have gone both ways... but the victory was eventually mine Very Happy ! (edit: the score was 8/7... http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=32 916170)
Very close game, and very nice to play (even if there was a problem, and I couldn't see Jeronimon's chat... :s).
I let him do a summary, we all know his narrative skills are far better than mine !

Jeronimon took revenge on the rematch, winning 8/4...

But the important is, we will still be in the lead at the end of this round Very Happy !!

Well done AXIS !!

Starting wednesday, I'll take a look at the battle you want us to choose Eric. You'll have my choice thursday or friday. Sorry for the delay...

Good evening/day to all Smile

Re:Results thread SFTF Mediterranean Theater Tournament Sun, 11 November 2012 20:48
It was indeed horrible!

Droopy was talking to me and I could not talk back. He thought something was the matter. After the match I concluded he invited me just as I clicked “invisible”. So if that happens someone can play you but not “hear” you, very frustrating. I am a chatty person but could not.

The match: replay
I started by advancing agressively on the right and moving on Messina. Droopy counterde by moving both tank units to that flank. We both killed dan infantry on that flank and I managed to destroy a one fig armor unit with a stiff upper lip. Droopy had destroyed an armor unit I had moved up against those SWA dudes with three stars and a grenade 2-2 the score.

With my last right flank card I moved a lone tank into Messina for two medals. And then began an offensive on my left flank, Infantry assault followed by an assault on that flank netted me two infantries on that flank, but in the mean time DRoopy pincerd and got two lone fig armor units and an infantry. 6-5 the score

Droopy general advanced and escape dan infantry and destroyed an infantry 6-7 the score I had to kill two units! I tried to do that with a probe on my right but the three dice of my tanks were not enough to kill the two fig armor unit. I needed the three dice of the arty as well. The next turn Droopy thrwe six dice on one full fig infantry (three inf three grenades) 7-8 to Droopy. An very exciting match.

Droopy kept asking me if something was the matter and I kept PM-ing him that I could read his chat but he not mine. When he read the PM we both could relax a little.

So my friend here a summary of what you missed:

Help you cannot see what I type
That was a close match
Woohoo!
Ouch

Good one!
Help
6-1 to me
Leave that man alone
Ouch my, arty gone
You missed me Wink
A flag, a flag, throw a flag!
Ha ha, got those tanks!
Woohoo three tanks in one go!
Thanks for playing
Wink

A very close match where it could have gone either way, as Droopy said the rematch was much more one sided. At one moment I was leading 6 to 1, and then took some more risk than I usually do.

Both games were fun, but would have been much more enjoyable with chat!

I also still have to do my homework on the proposed battles. I fit takes too long just pick them Eric! Embarassed

Ortona : Jaykay2010 vs Artimon

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=33 135800

British army has attacked to the center of the map. German defense is tough, killing numerous of braves ! The center attack was finaly then stopped.
But, British morale was at the top, launching two attacks on the left and right sides. The left attack is quickly aborted to focus on the left side. German panzers counterattack before been destroyed. German infantry entered in the battle, finishing injured british units.
At this moment, the end of the battle is uncertain. But, Bristish have called the Air Force and the Division Artillery to help them. Germans injured units, who have retreated, have been crushed under bombers !

Result : Axis - 7 medals vs Allied - 8 medals

Thanks to Jaykay for this very close game (with better dices, Jaykay would certainly win - 33% of success for him versus 45% for me) and pleasant moment

Battle front report :

Lucky91 and myself played yesterday evening. I'm happy to report that allies have been denied their 2 points, as I won 8/3 Very Happy

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=33 212436

Well, I can't sum up the game properly, my internet being too slow these days to consult the replay in a decent time (internet operator keeps me waiting for repair for 3 weeks now... grr Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad ).

So from my memory, and roughly :

The battle took place on the center and (my) left flank. I think there was only one movement on my right... I have been able to keep my armor moving to cover both the left and center, and they quickly killed the inf first assault wave. Luc was not able to bring his armor to the front, probably a lack of green cards like assault. But I have...
In the end, I managed to bring forth an attack on my left, which closed the game.
Well, you'll have to watch the replay to have a better idea Wink.

During the game, we both had the feeling that I had far better dices. But they were almost even... A little better on armor for me, a little better on inf for Luc.
Luc : 53% inf, 32%armor. Me: 46% inf, 41% armor

It was a tough evening for Luc, who also lost the rematch, 8/4. This time, dices were uneven, and he had no left cards as Axis...

It was 2 great battle ! Thx to Luc, and the great cards I had Very Happy

Come on Axis team, we're closing on victory Very Happy. My opposing team leader, dear general Jeronimon Sir, should begin to see it now Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Very Happy LOL !

Re:Results thread SFTF Mediterranean Theater Tournament Tue, 04 December 2012 05:25
Gentlemen, I am sorry to say that sdnative has become a casuality of this tournament and will no longer be participating. So, to continue the tournament, we either find someone who can play the last 3 scenarios for him, or Damien assigns someone to play me from the remaining four players.

If we don't find anyone for the remaining rounds(any volunteers?), then Damien will assign someone to play twice.

Sorry for the inconvienence.
