Campaign Booklet : Opération Compass version en 1.10 Wed, 05 September 2012 01:54
Hi,

At start, sorry for my awful english but, as you maybe know, i'm french. I hope you will excuse me.

As you all know, Jacques "jdrommel" honored us a few weeks ago a new campaign called "Operation Compass". But a so beautiful campaign deserved a more dignified development. It is in this spirit that I undertook to revise the look of the campaign.

For this, I once again put Jacques involved, because after all, this is his campaign.

I begun with french version but now, I'm very proud to presente you the first release of the english translation.

Be quit, I have not translated this myself. Razz .

I am therefore pleased to offer this new version of Opération Compass

Thanks again Jacques

A overview of campaign booklet :

As you guessed, the translation is not easy for us. Also, if you think we made mistakes, we will be happy to correct them.

Have fun et enjoy it.

Michel/Endicott

And thanks for adding me in the credits for the Spanish translation, even though I haven't started yet this one! Very Happy

Incidentally, may I have the source document for a faster translation?

Cheers Razz

Thanks for another beautiful file. I love this stuff.

Comments:
* on page 1 there should be a better mask so the text doesn't run under the graphics (1st paragraph on the left)
* page 2, 3 header: egypte instead of egypt
* page 3: source would be "Wikipedia - Operation Compass"
* page numbering is faulty after page 3 (start with 2 again)
* on the 2nd page 3 you start the 2nd paragraph with "but". you should find another way to phrase this, it's poor to start a paragraph with but, especially since you already start with but on the last sentence of the previous paragraph.
* the front label on each scenario is still in french (Théâtre Méditerranéan)
* The references made in special rules to Compendium Cards, the english titles are:
- Troops (not Troop)
- Actions (not Action)
- Nations (not Nation)
* scenarios 4, 5, 7, 9: the special rule for BCF says "use TO units" instead of "use FOR units"
* scenario 1: same (to/for) with elite armor
* scenario 7, 8: same (to/for) with specialized units
* scenario 8: same (to/for) with wadis
* scenario 9: same (to/for) with anti-tank
* last page: ...especially the battles of Operation Compass...
* last page: instead of: go straight for the lybian desert dunes -> head straight for the Lybian desert dunes

For Toenails, new two pages of historical context will be translated next week.
For Compass, I'll wait that players comment it (for making corrections).
Be sure I'll give you that ASAP
But you can begin your translation in a text document and when I'll send you source document, you will just do a cut and paste Smile

Yes, I use Publisher 2010 for designing document, but if I could, I would use Adobe Creative suite because it's offering more fonctions, tools or options. But, it is also more expensive ... Razz
For creating pictures, I use Paint Shop Pro.

Regards,

Michel/Endicott.

Many who write scenarios have campaigns on their user pages. I have several, and there are many more out there. Click on the "user page" button on the left and navigate to the "projects" page. Nice work! When I did mine, I didn't have expensive software for that "polished" look. I know if you like the Mediterranean Theater, Operation Crusader is a good campaign. It is available on Nemesszili's user page

Re:Campaign Booklet : Opération Compass version en 1.10 Wed, 12 February 2014 14:14
I played this campaign recently and really enjoyed it. Some really great battles. I did however find problems with the Sidi Barani and Bardia battles.

The British, especially in Bardia, can just blast the poor Italians to bits with ships and artillery. I found at Bardia that I had to try and attack through my own wire to have a chance.

I made the following changes:

In Sidi Barani the Monitors are immune to Italian fire, but they only get three shots each. Place three stars on each one and remove the Monitor when the last shot is fired.

In Bardia the two battleships are considered Monitors with the same rules as above.

Historically the three British BB's mentioned in the scenario text fired an initial bombardment and then the monitors moved in.
Therefore before play begins the British player performs three barrage orders to represent the fire from each battleship. Each barrage must target a different hex.

In both scenarios the British player must be in occupation of a hex of Sidi Barrani or Bardia in order to win.

Thanks, somehow I missed some of these scenarios when looking for Italians by jdrommel.
I'll try playing these with Equipment Pack rules as I've done with other Italian scenarios: Italian High Command (start w/6 cards) and 1d Allied Air Power.

I've been playing a campaign with both my friend and cousin, of the 29th Infantry Division from jdrommel's scenarios for the 2011 French Open. I was going to post again if I ever finished.

It starts with Omaha Beach Exit D1 then
Vaumicel Manor,
Crossing of Elle River,
Bretel Wood,
Battle on Martinville Ridge, and
Capture of Vire, which has Air Rules and ends the Battle of Normandy in July, around the Breakout. I was going to give a reinforcements card to the winner, but we never used it in the following scenarios, so basically its just points: 1 for each VP, 1 bonus for winning, 1 bonus for each medal site captured.
