Re:Results for Pacific Online Tournamnet Sun, 28 July 2013 03:37
Well...1st a GREAT BIG THANKS to JAYKAY2010 for taking the time to engage in our battle today, 07-27-13...must not have been easy just having returned from his HOLIDAY stateside just yesterday, late no doubt and then braving jet lag and having to get used to driving on the LEFT again to play our match!!

Tale of the Tape: Gonzalan INF 40-86 = 47%, 0-2 ARM = 0%, 40-88 = 45%
JK2010 INF 17-45 = 38%, 3-9 ARM = 33%, 20-54 = 37%

34 more dice thrown, 20 more hits....ALLIES 10 - AXIS 4...ALLIES victory at the Battle of Milne Bay

Ironically, even with jet lag, JK opened with AIRPOWER, 2-4, 50% and being that he was no doubt tired, I COUNTERED..even more jet lag...7-8 on his CENTER infantry still in the water and effectively put a dent on his attack there.

Except for the 3 cards he played on his RIGHT...out of 10 turns...battle was carried in the CENTER and my RIGHT...played 2 ALL's in CENTER, 1 he COUNTERED, after a 2-2 start...I got 5 kills on 2 consecutive turns and jumped out to a 7-2 lead...thanks to his dice and misses.

From that point...till end of game...played an ALL on my RIGHT, INF ASLT in CENTER and finished the task....still holding a FIREFIGHT I never had to use and an ART BOMB as well....was ALL in the cards and dice for me and not him as evidenced by the dice and %...

JK was a real sport about his lack of success and fought to the end...just not his day, but sure he was happy to return home after his HOLIDAY!!

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=36 981326

As for the replay, I also took that one. 10-5...cards and % in my favor again..though dice closer, 60-63, but % was all me, 58%-41% overall, fun match, though in my favor, was worth the wait to get to play JK2010!

Lost 10 - 7 against Droopy

After a very difficult battle, with in the end equal dice. Dugrim fought very well but was unlucky, not having a center cards throughout the game.
He lead 8/5 but that lack of center cards, and I suspect no right cards during the last few turns gave me opportunity to take an objective medal and 4 kills without big challenge, with the appreciated help of having two times TFH almost in a row...

A very interesting battle, thx to Dugrim Smile ! And thx to Looney who as usual created a playable and challenging map !

Here's the replay : http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=37 055065

Good luck to my fellow Axis player who still has to play, and a little less for the ennemy Wink.

Cheers Very Happy !

I'm scheduled to play Buidheo this coming Monday. Sorry for the delay, but we had some delay before communications were established, and we were both out of town this week. However, the match is now scheduled. Smile

Battle of Milne

Buidheo (Axis) vs. JJjuggernault (allies)
Figures Axis 38 - Allies 28
Medals Axis 10 - Allies 5

Axis had two right flank assaults. They waited for the Allies to go to the jungle and then attacked. Tough for the Allies. Axis rolled 15 more dice. Good game

Everyone,

I am taking over for helcat until he responds. Vaillants please let me know when you are available to play. Also, I think there is still a first round game that he hasn't played. Whoever is my opponent, let me know when you can play.

Sorry about the delay. We'll get this moving. I have a lot of good scenarios coming up that I want you guys to play.

Hi Eric,

I could be connected tonight from 9:30 pm CET if you want as I'm the first round opponent of Helcat.

Let me know if that could fit with your planning. If not, I couldn't play it before September. Sad

Artimon,

Missed your post. That's OK. Since I have control of the scenarios I can put them up when we play. I am making arrangements to play Vaillants. What I'm going to do is move on to the next scenario tonight and then go back when I need to make up the others. Look for it online tonight.

Matchup should be announced by the commanders for round 3.

Apart from the fact that if you shoot allies on caves with artillery it rolls to seal the cave this played ok

I was not able to kill wounded units off and Gonzalan was able to work me down and take me 8-3

For those interested in watching and not reading, the link above!

1st...a gracious thank you to vV, esteemed leader of the AXIS team...he was up at 2230 Monday, his time, we spent 1/2 the day going back and forth with PM's here about playing and finally, once I got home from work at 2130 Monday, my time, about 0430 his time Tuesday morning, thank you vV for your patience, we played. My last opponent, JK2010, was also accommodating concerning scheduling a playing time.

Stats:

Gonzalan 30-55 INF, 55%, nothing else
Van Voort 14-26 INF, 54%, 5-19 ARM, 26% 19-45 OVERALL, 42%

INF close, though die much in my favor, his downfall, the ARM rolls and hit rate.

The PARADROP: 4-4 success...most importantly...3 landing by his CENTER jungle unit...ONE on the mountain cave, we both had a good starting had, each with 3 GRAYS.

I M/O out of the drop...my target obvious, kill jungle unit and/or seal the cave, kill the unit and quickly 1-1, his obj medal and chance to seal the cave, if no enemy around, at very least...take up space!

Here....strange thing happens....he plays ART BOMB...and immediately a roll for sealing the cave happens...STAR and magically cave becomes a HILL!! No doubt...had an affect on the game play...cave gone, though I had units nearby to contest...still not what we were expecting!! He fires away and damages unit now on hill.

From here...battle goes towards NADZAB, move units on that side...he kills my single INF fig from hill and I kill his unit in NADZAB, thx to an AMBUSH...2-2 and continue to maneuver on that side and I foray on my RIGHT with a 2-2-2 and try for OPERATION DIE REDUCTION on his units there, 1 success.

DFHQ from me nets me a kill on my LEFT...3-2 me...manage a single hit on cave unit and snatch another die from him....IJA and extra die a dangerous thing!

Next he performs the IJA's signature move...CAVE TELEPORTING...a 1-1-1 and gets 2 hits on my FT ARMOR on my LEFT, but exposes a unit and I match his 1-1-1 and kill his unit with lone ARMOR unit and ENGINEERS...4-2 me and 2 hits on 2 other units, reducing full strength.

He gets my FT ARMOR next...4-3 me, 3 hits on another INF and things staying tight and my CENTER forces slowly being reduced.

I then try to BEL my way to a kill, 2-4, leave one standing and then run and try to hide in a CAVE...didn't work, he saw me run in there and hide..kills it his turn..4-4 now and hits 3-4 on my ENGINEERS.

I kill a single INF next with my other FT ARMOR, 5-4 me, brave single ENGINEER attacks his full strength unit, 3-4 and we have a SINGLE INF unit standoff in the CENTER!!

Here, he plays TFH...3 activate...concentrates his FIREPOWER on my FT ARMOR...2-10...leaving my SINGLE INF FIG to observe the action...gets no kill and I retaliate in kind and get 2 kills with the help of OVERRUN and ENGINEERS...7-4 me and one medal away from victory.

He comes out of MEDAL OBJ...giving it up in hopes of making me retreat out of range of MEDAL OBJ..but had an INF ASLT in waiting, thank goodness and move in on my turn and take the game....8-3.

Good cards and good dice lead to my win...his timely misses as well..and obviously the 5-19 on ARMOR didn't help him...plus the strange sealing of the cave..changed things for both sides, but Van Voort was a true leader and sport and continued to play on despite the strange cave sealing.

1st victory to the ALLIES in MARKHAM VALLEY...good luck to the rest of the ALLIED team!!!

Gonzalan, vanVoort and all other players,

That was a bug I didn't anticipate. This is going to be tough to write scenarios that use caves. I think they are an integral part of the Pacific Theater but these kind of bugs may crop up. Please hang in there. At least the air drop worked. Oh well.

Looney,

No worries...can't anticipate everything, well unless you are Carnack the Great or was he Magnificent?

Or perhaps a side effect of the shelling from ARTILLERY...shells tend to have that effect...rifile rounds not so much!!!

Enjoyed it nevertheless and Van Voort played his normal tough game and fought to the end, happy to get out with a win!!

EDIT:

Just finished playing MARKHAM VALLEY as IJA...attacked ALLIES in CAVES...under normal attack...INF and ART...would fire and NO SEALING...not until I played a 2nd time...attacked using ART BOMB much like VAN VOORT...only then did the CAVE SEAL ROLL happen...before my 2 rolls with ART BOMB....must be something in the sequence...ORDER, MOVE, ATTACK and if UNIT IN CAVE...

It's particularly bad, because it's the Japanese trying to seal their own cave, which makes no sense whatsoever. And the arty rolled 3d against the cave, even though it was at 2d range.

Here's how the Pacific rule book describes sealing a cave: "Allied Infantry may attempt to seal a Cave by moving onto it. As long as no enemy unit is adjacent to the Cave hex, the Allied Infantry may roll its Close Assault dice in lieu of battling." So it's an artillery, not infantry. It's Axis, not Allied. It's not on or even adjacent to the cave. It rolled an illogical number of dice. And it did all of this when there was a valid enemy unit to attack on the hex. That's a Yahtzee!

By the way, regular infantry also roll 3d to seal the cave here, even though its close assault roll against a cave should be 1d.

Has anybody seen if that bug with an Arty Bombard occurs in Sugar Loaf or Meat Grinder, too?

I think that the 3d "close assault" die roll may be the the way it is. In other words, it is not like the unit is attacking a unit in a cave, so the drm for combat against this terrian type does not apply when attempting to seal a cave.

Interestingly, this question never came up for the FAQ but I will check the forums.

The arty thing is an obvious error but the system is allowing the same number of die to the arty unit as an infantry unit would roll for sealing a cave.

Hi Sam.

I agree with you on that point.

But, I did do a forum search and found two short discussions on this with both coming to the concusion the unit attempting to seal a cave is not affected by the cave's drm for combat.

I do think this might be a good FAQ question.

Also if you do the regular sealing with an infantry it shows an animation of the three die roll and the after/during that you get the question: do you want to seal the cave. The three die roll after that is the one that counts. (I think this is also the case in regular scenarios)

Found another bug. I airdropped my units onto the left. One landed on a river that couldn't be forded. It was filled up to four figures, but could never move. Very strange...

Geoff,

That bugs been around for a while. Just consider that unit lost as if it never made it. However, if the opposition attacks it and it is asked to retreat, it will. The unit then becomes active.

Let's see it this way: those guys landed badly and are hanging from their parachutes in the trees. They can fire and be fired upon but they cannot move. Smile

If the enemy forces retreat they are "shot out" of the trees and can run away.
Ok, that last one is a stretch of the imagination. But it could happen. Laughing

++ BATTLE RESULT FROM THE FRONT ++

Jaykay2010 (Axis) Medals 8 Figs 27
vs
JJs Juggernaut (Allies) Medals 3 Figs 15

A swift victory this one .. Finished in 14 turns !!

JJ never really managed to get into a position to strike .. his early moves being thwarted by some strong dice rolls from the Axis, reflected in the stats at the end (62% vs Allied infantry).

The cards JJ had to work with weren't great for him, and a mis-rolled Medic card on a depleted tank unit certainly didn't help his cause.

Before it had barely begun, the Japanese had decimated the Allied troops with very little difficulty ..

Thanks for being a great sport partner, hopefully we'll get to fight again on a more even keel Wink

JAParker (al) 4-8 clorofila (ax)
64-74 dice, 38%-43% overall hit rate

No chances for my good friend John, who gave fought early on, keeping a balanced medal score, but having poor later cards and dice, keeping him away from a structured offensive in a specific flank.
JAParker won the rematch, reinforcing axis edge in this scenario.

Thank you for playing and for your good sportsmanship, John! Better luck in the next match.

Result from the front, LooneyLlama vs Droopy007 : A short victory for the Japanese Very Happy ! 7 med, 29 fig vs 8 med, 26 fig.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=37 467271

A great match against Eric, very close, and mainly decided on a providential ambush. It bought me one turn and a kill the one after, enough to finish by gaining the objective medal... Without the ambush, Eric would have finish me, for sure.

So I'm very glad on this one ! Very Happy

Thx for the match Eric ! And good luck to my fellow Axis fighter Smile !

Buidheo and I bumped into each other online tonight, so we played out match earlier than scheduled.

I got out to a nice lead, with 5 kills against 1 after turn 15 (though his Assault Center on turn 16 would give him two kills). Then, fatefully, on my next turn, I played a Recon Center when I had intended to play Medics. The Japanese proceeded to kill the flame tank I was going to reinforce, plus all three engineers, during their next two turns, giving them 7 kills, but moving out of the town. With a Pincer Move, I evened the score with a kill on my right, but my 2d artillery shot against a 1-fig Japanese tank retreated it into the medal town, giving the Japanese an 8-7 win.

I rolled 2/13 (15%) against Japanese armor. Buidheo rolled 3/14 (21%) against Allied armor.

We played a rematch where the Allies had incredibly bad luck against the lead bunker on my left, but I rolled 0/14 against Allied armor on my last two turns (3/20 or 15% overall) and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Buidheo's Allies took the rematch, 8-5.

I think you shall be a little less pleased Smile

My Allies forces (8 medals inc the 2 town medals - 24 figs)overcame Kellogs Japanese (5 medals - 29 figs)

Three of my paras landed in the center (good) but I had no cards there (bad). I would not draw a center card until my 6th turn so I had to open the battle on my right. My early attacks were a bit off and the Japanese had the edge to start off with.

But slowly I was able to battle back and a late Center Assault (played on my 7th) ordered 5 units and tied the game at 4 to 4. Then two attacks left both my center Flame tanks with 1 fig each.

I then played my freshly drawn Center Assault and advanced two Combat Eng infantry and a regular infantry into and around the center jungle mass before the town and took out a 2 fig infantry hiding in the caves. My two Flame Tanks cutoff a Japanese tank in the jungle hex next to water and killed it to lead 6 to 4 and the town was open. I had four units within a move of the town so things looked good.

I was then helped in my cause as my opponent played the wrong card (intended to play BEL I am guessing) only could only manage to kill one unit but did retreat the other two away from the town. I then moved my lone 1 fig Flame Tank into the empty town for the win.

I think without both Center Assaults I was toast in this one.

In the rematch, my Japanese won 8 (32) to 4 (22) and most of the battle happened in the center with the allies taking the town for a turn before my arty flagged it out of there.

My center was starting to fall apart before I moved my tank in from my left and they were able to secure the win mainly due to the miserable Allies dice against it.

Tank commander has won 2 battles. Is a good player and he deserves victory. I did several bad plays and tank commander know how use them. Congratulations.

Artimon (Japanese) vs Jeronimon (Allied) : 8 medals vs 6 medals - 62 dices vs 59 - 45% of hits vs 49%

A tough battle very close, balanced and intense betweeen allied and Japanese. As usual, Jeronimon was a great and friendly opponent.

The rematch was also won by Japanese but with a gap more important as Jeronimon has pushed with skill his troops to the victory.

Paratroopers are always fun to play, thanks Eric for these beautiful and enjoyable scenarii.

I may also play the 1st tournament match with you from tomorrow 10:00 pm CET. Post me the best date for you to Schedule this match.

Two fun battles against Artimon.

I really thought I could take on the japanese on the right with my cards. But in the end Artimon got to the 8 medals sooner than I did. Maybe I should have gone for a double flag on the infantry in the objective town. But I thought that was too risky.

Link to battle.

In the rematch I had it easy. I lost the two forward units pretty quickly, but could revenge those in the middle section where I killed all the paradropped units. That helped a great deal towards the end victory.

But it seems that the Axis have the upper hand this round, only two Allied victories so far. Let's hope our side can finish this round strong!

Yes, bad guys seem to have the edge this round so far...but the last few battles have been very close and could have gone either way...Looney, Sam and you, Jeronimon...all close and TC's win just as close..still plenty of rounds and fighting to go!!

Take a breather and let's get ready to charge back into the fray once more!!
