paying the game Fri, 13 September 2013 03:58
I do not understand why both players (in one game) have to give up Credits?

I am new to this game and I had 50 free credits to start with. I have run out in two short days.
Seems like a whole lot of money. I live in Alaska and winter is coming.
I do not work...come winter. If I was to get into this game, I can see it costing $100 if not a thousands of dollars for one year of play.
Too much doe. I can not see spending that kinda doe on a game. The fact that you charge both parties to engage in a game really solidifies my desire to eliminate this game from my list.
Just too spendy.
Is there a yearly rate?

Is there a place where I can post a suggestion about the game mechanics?

I found that if you use the Firefight card, you can not designate a unit that is adjacent to an enemy unit.

I also find, during the firefight, if a unit retreats next to a previously designated unit (one of the units chosen for the firefight...that has not fired yet)that unit becomes adjacent to enemy unit and is disqualified for use in the firefight.

Something don't seem right with that.
Maybe allow a player to chose (designate)a unit that is currently adjacent to enemy unit...if in the course of battle (firefight) said enemy unit is no longer adjacent to designated unit, to be allowed to engage in fire fight.

Or just do not allow unit to retreat next to enemy unit engaged in the firefight (thereby disarming unit)

Not really an issue. It cost me a game. Took me by surprise. Trial and error, is the name of the game (for me at this point)

well good luck.
Have fun

Welcome to the forums. I'm afraid that some of your issues with the game are in the rules of the game and won't be changing. You can find the rules here on the Days of Wonder web site, which might help a bit.

Here's a link:

Wow, a thousand dollars on Memoir '44 Online. How many games would that be. By my estimation that's over 13,000 games. Dude, you need to get some other hobbies. Laughing

Geesh, for example, learn to knit and sell your knitting on EBay and then buy more gold to play games. Very Happy Ah, I guess you need sheep in order to knit. But still...

I play the board game only (not online) and I probably play 100 games at most in a year (if even that). Certainly $60 will get you about 800 games. Figure 20 minutes per game and you get over 250 hours of entertainment for that $60. Look at it another way: that's 8 cents per game.

Somebody has to pay for the servers that run this game and the maintenance required.

I have been playing M44 online for two years now. And I can say I have a life outside it. Smile

But I did play over 2000 games these past two years. I can honestly say that I do not regret a penny of the money I spent on it.

Lately I have spent much much more money to try and get the board game complete. Embarassed

Ah, but the quest to get the whole physical set is a worthy one!! Smile

For Waltero - there isn't any kind of yearly fee or anything; it's the Ingot system but the nice thing about it is the Ingots never expire. So if you play a ton in the winter but never in the summer, your credits will still be waiting for you the next winter.

If you buy the $60 pack (which sounds like a lot of money) you get 2,500 credits, but you also get a $30 credit to put back into more credits if you want!! So you could actually get two Major Packs for $90, giving you 5,000 credits or you could get the Major Pack and use the credit to get a free Captain Pack, giving you 3,500 credits for only $60.

In the end, their pay system isn't going to change but many of us have found that the credits go a lot further than we expected. I hope you'll decide to stay with the online game but there are always the two free battles for you to play or you could get yourself the physical game for those long winters!

If waltero happens to read this topic again, there's also VASSAL, which is free and enables you to play Memoir '44 online. It is not, however, equivalent to the official M44 online (differs in many aspects)

Thanks for the info. I have always felt, the games that are playable on line using the ingot system are always about (only) the money...not for me.
Both parties paying (playing) for the same game really confuses me.
No matter.

One Question:Do you pay out ingots to players who refer others to join this Community?

Have fun...I will stick to the two free games for now.
Just can not do it(put into the ingot system)

No, there's no way to earn more ingots at this point. Have fun with other games, though if you enjoy the game it might be good to get the physical game.

Anyway, have fun with whatever you decide to do.

Just sign up for the Major Pack $60 and you will receive a $30 credit from the DOW store and you get 2400 ingots!
I have been playing nearly 2 years and still have ingots left over and I play a fair amount.
