Does the player creating the game have to go first? Wed, 25 December 2013 19:41
In an online game, as far as I can tell, the player who creates the game has to go first. And the play order of the others seems to be determined by the order in which they are invited to the game. I don't mind this as default behavior, but I'd love to see an option to randomize the play order. So you create the game with a set of players, but the game randomly re-orders them. Would anyone else like to see this feature? Or is this already possible and I am simply overlooking how to do it?

Otherwise, I love the game.

Thanks,
Mitch

Currently the creating player is the starting player. There have been some requests for this same feature and DoW has said it's possible, but there is no way to randomize the player order at this point.

Then why it's possibly to do randomize in Pass'n'play?

Ummm...because that's how it was programed? Very Happy

My best guess is that the 'creating player' goes first in Asynch games because then the game can get started right away. If I create a game with 4 other players, but I'm not the starting player, then the first turn has to wait until another person sees the game and begins. By having me start, it gets things rolling a little faster.

But like I said, that's just a guess. Cool

The decision to make the inviting player always go first also seemed strange to me at the first glance. Now I see it clearly that it was perfectly justified!

Games "With Buddies" are the only games that can be ranked. And the ranking system is ELO based, which means it does not take into consideration the chance factor.

Now when someone invites you, you can see the board and the choices made by players whose turns are prior to yours. Thus it is up to you to decide whether the game situation is balanced and to accept the game, or it is unbalanced ( someone has a too strong starting hand ) and then you can withdraw such a game without consequences for your rating and karma.

I don't know whether the developers had it in mind while setting it up this way, but I can say that I appreciate this decision! It justifies using ELO in a game like Small World to a certain degree.
