seeing medal results for SFTF scenarios posted to public Wed, 12 February 2014 06:30
I've got a scenario on the public SFTF tab. Does anyone know if there is a way to see the medal results of other players playing that scenario to be able to gauge balance in the scenario? I know that the percentage will adjust as people play but is there any way to see that the battles were close (say 6-5) rather than blowouts (say 6-1)?

Just wondering... Question

Yes, somewhat.

When you select your scenario on M44 online, and press: play solo (or if you play it against someone else), you can see on the overview screen (with rules, the map, etc, …) the win percentage for each side, and the average number of medals for each side.

The higher the average number of medals for the weaker side, the more tense the games tend to be. I even think this better reflects how tense the games are than the actual victory percentage, although often they are related.

I've had a scenario with an average allied win percentage of 13% that got better scores from players (the stars people give a scenario) than one that had 24%. The reason was that while the scenario was very hard to win as allies, they almost always got about 4 medals (out of 6) which gave the feeling that they stood a chance.
In the 24% scenario, the Allies got an average of just over 2 medals, which means that when you only take the games they lost, they got an average of less than 2 medals. So most of the time, it was a walkover for the Axis, except when the Allies were very lucky and they could win. The scenario was subject to a lot of luck factors: few cards, desert scenario with tanks, Axis had much stronger units but only in one section of the battlefield, so if Axis had no cards there, Allies were suddenly much stronger, …

You can also look up the scenario on the SFTF section of the DoW Memoir website. Then, if you click on the stars, you can see who rated the scenario. Since most of the ratings for an online scenario are given after people play it, you can start looking for the replays of the scenario in the officer career of those players who rated it. This can give you a feeling of how people played the scenario and what strategies they used.

Wim, that was just what I was looking for. I should have thought of that, but didn't, and glad you did! And thanks for the insight on reflection of the tenseness of the game reflected in the higher losing side medal count. Definitely a fun factor.

Battle on.

Jaykay,
It's Advance on Hill X in the Pacific theater. Would love to have you try and give me input! Or meet you there someday and fight it out... Cool
