Turn order bidding Thu, 21 August 2014 06:22
First off, demoed this at GenCon Saturday and loved it, so I made sure to be one of the first in line for an early copy Sunday.

We played it with our gaming group tonight and a question came up.
In the rules, it explicitly states only 3 players can bid 0 for turn order, but what if this situation arises:
In a 4 player game, the first 3 players bid 0 and the fourth player doesn't have any gold coins to bid with, what happens?
This seems unlikely to come up, but on the off chance it does, I want to be prepared.

I'm not sure if you asked this same question on BGG, but if not someone had the same wondering.

The whole point of the game is to earn money so if a player is completely out of money for bidding, they've entirely missed the point of the game and might want to rethink their strategy! Twisted Evil

Bruno said in the BGG thread that in all of his testing this situation never happened, but if it did, the player would have to trade in at least 1 resource to get money for bidding.

Have fun and make sure you're earning that money! Cool

This is HIGHLY unlikely indeed!

Bruno Cathala, the game designer, played hundreds of games and it never happened. We @DoW played numerous games as well; plus we explained the game on different conventions (GenCon Indy, Paris est Ludique) and never saw a game where this situation occured.

It is a theoretical possible situation, I'll give you that, but IRL it simply does not happen, so I wouldn't bother about that. IF it prevents you from sleeping though, that situation would be ruled as follows:
1° Force the broke player to sell a card (even if he should have done it on the previous turn) to collect 1 coin that he must immediately spend;
2° If that player has no card, he suffers a -1 penalty on his final score.

But again I highly doubt that you will ever need that rule. If you do, let us know.

Thank you. I figured it was highly unlikely, but I have an engineer friend who likes to know all of the details.
