Counter-Attacking a Counter-Attack Card (!)

Just finished a Pegasus scenario, which I won on a disputed card play. I played a recon in force, which my opponent counter-attacked. I then played another counter-attack card to recon in force again. He claimed that you cannot counter-attack a counter-attack card, but I don't see why not. Surely it just duplicates the EFFECT of the opponent's previous card, in this case recon in force. Any views?

For my money, one can reply a counter-attack to a counter-attack, duplicating the effect of the card.

There's no reason why you can't play "Counter-Attack" on "Counter-Attack". It works just as you described.

i would say the same. if you counter attack a counter attack, you just play the same card as your last turn.....
