New Creatures/Heroes "Club" Request Wed, 27 December 2006 05:11
I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but it would be really great if I could pay a price to receive a new figure every month/quarter similar to a book club. I know there are plans for new creatures and potentially heroes down the road, but I guess this idea would depend upon how frequently they will be distributed.

It'd also be a cool gift for next holiday! Much better than a Fruit of the Month Club for those gamers out there who enjoy BattleLore. It'd be extra special if club members received unique figures that won't be available through mainstream purchasing.

Subscription, not club Wed, 27 December 2006 23:21
I agree with half of the original post.

I wouldn't call it a club, though, I'd call it a subscription. A subscription is where you prepay (a likely reduced) set fee and are shipped every released figure as long as you are a subscriber. That sounds fine.

The whole idea of "special" figures for subscribers makes me angry though. One of the attractions to BL for me was the non-collectable nature of the game. I hate collectability. I'm not thrilled about the pre-order figure I missed out on (but after 1 game of BL last night, I'm ready to find it on Ebay. Love the game!). And I certainly won't support anything that smacks of collectability in the future of BL.

We had mentioned this before the game was released. I would support a subscription of the figures so I don't have to go out and track them down each month. I tried setting up with a local reatialer but he didn't seem interested. He just wanted me to place the order and he would get it for me.

Actually, I would like to see a program similar to another company's "Friday Night" event. Each month (doesn't have to be every month, could be every other month or quarterly). There could be a new figure. To get the figure, you have to go to your FLGS and play in an organized BattleLore event. Players games' would then be registered on the BattleLore website.

And what happens if you miss a game night? You just drive up the collectibility of this game and ebay's profits. I prefer not to have to go to a gamestore with ... gamers just to get a new expansion.

Just make promo figures available to FLGS for sale after a while, so nothing is hard to get. Like they did with the elemental and hill giant.

Of course, living in the US, it's pretty hard to find a FLGS I heard. Here in Belgium we have like 10+ stores within a 10 miles reach.

I don't know...I have an FLGS just up the street and a couple more within an hour drive.

I live at least 45 minutes from a local store, and then the only two are geared to a younger crowd, that plays Card Games or Miniatures (the kind on a big recessed table).

I struggle to find even one other person to play games with let alone an entire group of people that get together and play.

I would not mind a subscription fee, if it were a minimal cost (since it would be on a regular basis), because I would not expect something every month, but maybe points toward figures or future expansions.

Basically it would be pre-paying for items yet future and a way to support the company and the game itself.

It would save me time to do it this way (since I plan on getting most if not all of the expansions ASAP).

The FLGS idea is real bad for those of us who do not have a FLGS anywhere near. The closest thing I have is a comic shop about 30 miles away that will begrudgingly order games (I'd rather just order them online than deal with them). I have to go about an hour drive to find a game store that actually stocks board games. I don't know how far I'd have to go to find one that actually has an organized game night (except for MTG and Yugi-Oh).

I agree with JKOTTER a colletcability game would be a bad thing. After spending a few hundred bucks on Axis and Allies Minis. I gave up on the game. Collectability sucks, just a way to get us to spend big bucks on useless figs. to get the few we need/want. I expect better from Days of Wonder.

Promo figures aside (and they were LE rather than collectable), I'm pretty sure DoW have stated somewhere that they won't be making this game collectable. And I don't think (hope) that is their style anyway =8)

I don't see how a scenario based game like Battle Lore could fall into the "collectable" trap, surely that is restricted to those games where you provide your own forces?

Frequent releases of new creatures would be great, but only if enough balanced scenarios that include them are available (or if they can replace creatures in existing scenarios without unbalancing them too much).
