J Galt loves to play on when the Bot of his opponent makes a mistake (playing 5 whites instead of 6 whites) and he is asked for a restart - in the beginning (!!!) of the game.

Beware of VWL-ist-Scheisse
We start a MPWC game and he join us. We ask him to exit this game and he doesnt want. So we all quit the game for restart with players in competition.
After our game, we see VWL-ist-Scheisse have played againt 4 bots, only to gain points.
That's a shame !
Please, dont play against this disgusting player...

I would like to report myself for playing a bot vs Golfgirls. We were close to the end and I let curiosity get the best of me when she left. Thinking she left on purpose cause the outcome seemed to be going my way, I decided to see what her tix were.
In remorse, I have offered a rematch in which I will lose and return the points I so undeservingly and disgracefully obtained.
My sincere apologies to the entire TTR community and mostly to Golfgirls.

I would also like to report that it reminded me to laugh at myself for letting a game get to me enough that *I* bothered to post in this thread a couple posts prior to this one.
And, I have no doubt that Tinman offered the rematch and the points to Golfgirls.

Since this seems to be the forum for reporting unfair play, here's a particularly heinous example.
A few weeks ago, I joined a 2-player game with one "bearwolf78," who had a score right around 1500. As soon as I joined, I realized it was a "Big Cities" game, which I had never played before and for which I didn't even know (and still don't know) the rules. Realizing my mistake, I immediately tried to leave. Unfortunately, the tickets appeared a split second before I hit the leave button and, a few minutes later, while I was in the lobby talking to another player, I realized that bearwolf78 was still playing against the Bot -- even though I had left before the game even started. I immediately returned to find the game well underway. I made no comments about his rude decision to play on against the Bot. I just quietly continued -- with a couple of goofy, low-point east coast tickets that don't even exist in the USA map version that I'm used to playing.
Realizing that my tickets were horrible, I decided that my only chance to win was by blocking (which he made somewhat easier for me by playing la-phe, ny-pit, and leaving everything open in between). So what does this 1500-point player who played on against the Bot do? He accuses ME of unfair play for blocking! I told him that blocking was not against the rules and that he was the one who had played unfairly by playing on against the Bot. He then proceeded to argue that playing on against the bots is fair, but blocking is cheating. And when I continued blocking, he refused to play -- consistently waiting around 5 minutes per turn before laying down his trains. Finally, after about a half hour of this dance -- and after I had completely blocked him from connecting the 2 coasts -- he stormed off and quit.
(And, yes, I DID finish against the Bot since the game was effectively over anyhow)

hmmm solinsf, lots of fault all around in this example.
My first question for you is: Did you explain that you do not know Big Cities and made a mistake by joining? THEN, did you ask him to abort the game together?
We (upper level players) cannot assume people know the etiquette of fair play. Other players do leave when they get crappy tickets. He/she could have assumed you were such a player. We have to reason and explain to players when we leave or take the consequences of someone continuing to play on versus the bot.
Curious, why did you finish against the bot after all? (I wonder about this, although I probably would have too, )

Onyx:
I do not believe I asked him to quit or told him that I had made a mistake for joining. Bad on me for not doing so -- although I doubt he would have quit even if I had. Instead, I just immediately left the game -- which I thought would end it. Unfortunately, I didn't leave in time and the game started.
I don't really see how he could have thought I was leaving because of my tickets; the tickets weren't even there yet when I left (I guess they showed up almost exactly as I hit "Leave"). And, when I later asked him why he had played on, all he said was that he played on because he didn't know if I would come back. I then asked him why he didn't wait a few minutes and find out, and he said it's not illegal to play against the Bots (as opposed to blocking which, I guess, is a heinous violation of the Geneva Convention).
Anyway, he's not the first guy to play on against the bots & won't be the last. But I was struck by the incredible irony that a person could believe that playing on against the bots is fair play, but then throw a total conniption fit when he gets blocked. And, even if I shared some blame for not clarifying things at the beginning, there's no excuse for delaying the game every turn, cussing out your opponent, or quitting because you don't like the other guy's strategy.
And to answer your last question, I played on because the game was over. It was clear he hadn't quit because of computer problems. He quit in anger because he didn't like being blocked and because he had no chance to win. There were only like one or two more turns left in the game, so it's not like I beat up on a bot. If a person leaves without explanation or context, I will quit the game every time, even if it's nearly finished. But if a person leaves because he/she is a cry-baby, I refuse to reward that person by quitting. Here, there was no doubt why he had quit.

I agree with onyx here...I play big cities/1910 all the time, and when people over say 1500 points join the game, I assume they would "play fair", which mean either inform me, that they are not comfortable with playing this kind of game (and then we both agree to quit) or just play. And I wait for them in case they leave. In your case, I would've waited 5 minutes or so, which I would consider as unfair from you, since you would've been wasting my time.
Btw. this happened to me a couple a weeks ago, when a 1500+ player joined and left after the tickets were dealt. So I waited and waited, meanwhile checking his history, and suddenly I see, that he has just finished another game (and I was still waiting for him). So I finished the game (meaning played the entire game) against the bot...and was still quite angry at him.
Please consider next time, when you would be leaving a game without giving an explanation of why you are doing so, that you are wasting the time of the other player who is counting on the game etiquette and may be waiting for you (I am not saying this bearwolf was waiting, he probably wasn't, this is just a general statement).
m.
ps I don't think it's possible to that you quit before the game has started, otherwise it wouldn't have started...

Like I said, the tickets must have showed up almost exactly as I left, because they weren't there when I left.
Anyway, in hindsight, I agree that the better practice would have been for me to just say that I had made a mistake and to ask that we quit. But the reason I didn't do this is because I didn't know if he would agree to quit. On the other hand, if I just left quickly, I figured that would end the game -- except that it turned out I didn't leave quite quickly enough.
But, regardless of why I left or what I should have said, I still can't see how it is acceptable sportsmanship to play on against the bot when the other player left as soon as the game was starting. And to play on, but later whine, delay the game, and cuss the other guy out when he returns & blocks . . . well, that is CERTAINLY not acceptable sportsmanship.

Aleopold is a Cheater

Dear TtR community,
First off, yes... I'm back.
No, no... please. No need to get up. Yes, yes, you may clap...
But I regret that my first post after more than a year is a negative one. It involves an incident today with a player I formerly played some great matches against. Alfred, better known as Aleopold, used to be a decent railroad combat player. But after our match today, I must question his integrity.
It happened during a Royal Rumble, also involving The Baker from Berlin (or from somewhere in Germany... But Gaker from Germany doesn't make any sense) Shamogi, the Italian Stallion Fitzcarraldo and the cuddly Utih.
With my first move I immediately claimed Houston-New Orleans. Directly after that I told people not to touch the black cards since I needed them (it seemed to me it was pretty obvious I wanted Los Angeles-El Paso, duh). I even mentioned 'FAIR PLAY'. However, in the next few moves Aleopold deliberately started to collect black cards. Had I not mentioned to stay away from those? Why, yes, I had. Nevertheless, he continued to collect them. And a few turns later it happened... he claimed Los Angeles-El Paso, making it much harder for me to complete my tickets...
Now, do you think this was a coincidence? NO. I think Aleopold DELIBERATELY claimed Los Angeles-El Paso, even if I had SPECIFICALLY and STRONGLY hinted that I wanted it. Completely ignoring my 'FAIR PLAY' rules he took that piece just to make it harder for me.
I have lost all respect for Alfred. I just got back to playing TtR again after a year of absence, but I'm already tasting the bitter taste of cheating again...
DoW, I thought I made a screen shot of the incident but that didn't seem to work as I played the game directly from my computer. However, I do expect proper punishment. If I may do a suggestion, it seems fair to me if you give Aleopold 60 hits with a steel chair and lower his ELO points to 1200.
Such disgraceful behavior should not be tolerated.
Regards,
D.I.S.

i agree about this problem with aleopold
the last few games i was talking with gary (tinman) as i normally do about collecting black cards
gary and i were announcing gleefully how many black cards we each had as i recall i won the race by getting my 6th black card while gary had a measly 5 and then bam out of the blue there is aleoplod
at 18 cards in hand with 6 loks on black just like that bam
this type of unfair play needs to be punnished i second the motion to beat alfred with a chair and reset his points to 1200
welcome back pdz
