In the Campaign Book what exactly are considered heavy tanks for the purpose of adding kills to the Heavy Tank Unit track?

I assume these are any full strength armour units, and the rules seem to say this: "report every Allied armour unit destroyed in that track."

Is that the correct interpretation. That would mean both elite tank units and normal 3-figure units count, regardless of the type of tank unit in the scenario description.

What about 2 figure tank units and depleted tank units?

Heavy Tanks are only Elite Armor Units. Cool

Take a look, there are only Heavy Tank Tracks in the campaigns where there are Elite Armor Units.

Then this is clearly another error (of omission) in the Campaign book that should be noted. Plenty of unsuspecting folks are going to scratch their heads over this one. Strange the book just didn't say Elite Tank Track and then it would be obvious.

It would also be obvious if you went to record every tank you destroyed and don't find a Heavy Tank Track to record it in...Rolling Eyes

Have you been able to look through the Sticky Thread "Campaign Book Vol 1 - Official Errata"? You might find some answers there and this question could have been posted in that thread.

Sorry, I don't think that is obvious. How is anyone supposed to know for sure the campaign designer(s) did not purposely make only some campaigns with a Heavy Tank Track? I can guess, and the thought did occur to me, but I play by the "rules" as written rather than make assumptions. The "rules" indicated that any armour unit destroyed should be entered in the track. That is not true. Hence the "rules" are wrong. Rolling Eyes

In the future when using jargon that is not standard game terminology such as "heavy tank" there should be a definition that points to actual game terminology, in this case "elite tank unit". Cool

Hi there,
I also agree with you. We´re already using it in our game matches.

Wow. That is absolutely not how it is written: "When playing a campaign with a Heavy Tank Track, report every Allied Armor unit destroyed in that track." We always scored every armor unit destroyed.

You're right about the exact wording but if you read the background in CB1 (p 46) you'll see reference to the German's fearing the Char B and so that points to the objectives for the Track being Heavy / Elite tank units and not the normal armour.

Looking back over this I can see the argument for both sides. Rolling Eyes Interesting.

I would still point out that the only campaigns that have the Heavy Tank Track also have scenarios with elite Armor units...but I'm not as sure about this as I sounded before because the wording is open to all tanks. Razz

In the Historical Notes for the "Battle of Flavion":

"...with the heavy tanks (B1-bis) of the 1st Demi-brigade deployed between Ermeton and Flavion,.."

These heavy tank units are indeed represented by 4 fig elite tank units. So, I think we can safely come to the conclusion that only elite tank units count are are recorded on the German Heavy Tank Track.

The argument is further distorted by the fact that the Heavy Tank track in the 'Sickle-Cut' campaign allows for '4+' tank units to be scored, when they are only 4 Elite tank units available anyway! (So why include the '+' sign..)

The '+' sign raises the question in my mind that ordinary tank units could be included, (however thematically, I'm happy to accept it's just about collecting Elite tank unit kills).

Im gonna check the errata thread to see if anything was officially declared, as I'm just about to start this awesome looking campaign!

Don't forget that in many of the Campaigns your opponent could bring on Elite units...this could account for the + sign on that track.

This is, of course, just a guess. Smile

It is possible for the French to have more than 4 "heavy tank" units from a Reserve roll of double stars. An elite tank unit is one of the choices from this roll.

Quick answer from errata document:
Quote:

p.46 - Heavy Tank Track
The example is wrong - the title should be "The Crossing of the Meuse" and the text should read "The Axis player managed to destroy 4 Heavy Tank units. As a consequence, he receives 3 additional Victory Points." As Heavy Tanks are considered only French Elite 4-figures tank units. There is also a misprint in an example table "0" should be there in number of destroyed tanks instead of "0".

Just for reminder, check this thread for CB's errata documents:
http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?goto=246999#msg_246999

EDIT: I will probably later add this to document to make it clear for future.
