Escape to Coastal Road Bug Tue, 02 August 2011 18:18
During the escape to coastal road scenario, I noticed that there's no way to actually use the exits. I placed on unit on the exit, and it asked if I wanted to exit. I said yes, but the unit stayed put. In fact, it even got the option to attack.

I tried with another unit on the opposite exit, and it never got the option to exit the map. Is there a bug or am I missing something?

Did you have enough movement to exit the board? You need to move one hex off the road.

Sounds like you did or it wouldn't have asked, but I'm not sure what the problem is.

I think the exit markers are still a bit buggy. One of my opponents reported that he was asked if he wanted to exit the unit off the board, and he said yes, but the unit didn't exit. Though in this case, he should not have been asked because he had no moves left for that unit. The scenario was 'Dug in at Sidi Omar'. I think he was a bit irate afterward, as he would have won had he been able to exit the unit.

You need to have enough movement left to exit the board beyond the exit hex. I just tested it and it seems to work fine. If you still have issues, please submit a bug report complete with your log file and we'll investigate.

Thanks!

I think the problem arises when the unit is next to the exit hex at the start of his turn. In that instance it it hard to tell the computer that you wish to move off the board. Lifting the unit off the edge of the board has not effect because it is a "illegal" move.

I think - and I'm really not sure - that the solution is either to pick the unit up and put him back down in place. This seems to alert the computer that this unit is both able to move and able to exit. Anyway, it worked for me. I hope it works for you all too.

If you drag and drop the unit to the EXIT hex the computer will ask you if you want to EXIT. If you have enough movement points to continue and actually exit the board the bot will aknowledge this and give you a medal. However, if you have consumed ALL your movement points to just get to the EXIT hex, the bot will still ask the question, but nothing will happen because you are not allowed to move any further.

No BUG, just a question box programmed to open and ask a question when you ENTER the EXIT hex.

Well, I hear what you're saying, but I've had problems moving my units off the edge of the board when it was my turn and those units had two movement points left and I know some of my opponents have too. I think it might be that we don't know where to properly place the units in order to trigger the exit dialog box. We might be dragging our units far off the board thinking that this should signal our desire to exit. Not saying that it's a "bug" as much as I'm saying that the exiting player may need to be precise with his movements but have no way of knowing that such precision is required.

You are probably correct. The safest way to play it is to drag your unit one hex at a time onto the EXIT hex and then follow the bot's instructions. Remember moving onto the hex in itself is not sufficient, you must have one additional movement point available to actually EXIT the board.

I have noticed that in several frozen river scenarios if you simply drag from one point to the end point the bot may take you places you don't want to go. I know one time I had infantry assault with Finish ski troops and I was going to cross the ice at ONE point, but the bot decide to go downriver and destroyed my unit crossing TWO hexes of frozen ice and rolling stars.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but if the player is asked 'do you want to exit the board?' when his only option is to remain ON the board at least until next turn, because he has no moves remaining, I would consider that a bug. The question shouldn't have been asked, imo

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is that it is sometimes difficult to trigger the exit dialog box. Players are left at the edge of the game board with additional movement remaining yet with seemingly nowhere to go.

How about the prompt that asks if you wish to ignore a flag for a dug in unit when that unit was just eliminated in combat.

Or how about the Firefight prompt that tells you can order more units even when that unit(s) cannot possibly fire.

There are a few of those worthless prompts in the game.

And most of these annoying, meaningless, prompts have been reported to DoW. Someday, hopefully, they might even be fixed.
