Scenario rating standards Sat, 29 September 2012 20:39
I think we need some scenario rating standards for the scenarios posted by players to play online.

I just played Stalingrad 1942, after being invited. It has a general rating of 3 stars, because 20 of the 30 people giving it a rating gave it 3 stars.
However, in that scenario, some infantry are elite infantry and some are just regular infantry, but none are marked with badges. I think this is something that the creator could fix easily, if he could be bothered to make the effort. For me, that aspect alone makes it impossible to give that scenario 3 stars, until the creator added the badges.

If some terrain does not work, either don't use it or put in the description that it does not work. If some units are elites, mark them with badges. On the board, it is not necessary to do so if all troops are elite, but it is not much of a burden to do it for the online scenarios.

And when you rate scenarios, you should take 2 things into consideration: Is it fun? Does everything work as described?

My scoring is like this:
Fun and everything works as described: 3 stars
Not fun OR not everything works: 2 stars
Not fun AND not everything works: 1 star

Sorry for this rant ...

There are a lot of scenarios with 3 stars that have bugs in them and I agree with Quit2 until the editor and the online game gets fixed authors should WAIT until there is a fix, use some other type of terrain, put it in the notes what bugs there are or just submit for board play instead of online play.

Be sure to send the author a message if you are giving a low rating based on no badges or bad terrain. I've done that, and when they fix it, I've gone back and improved my rating.

PS: It doesn't take much to knock a fine scenario down from 3 stars; you have to get a lot of 3-ratings to make up for just one 1-star rating.

I always invite all players to voice their opinion on my map when I announce a new expert scenario, but the feedback is meager to say the least. Giving low ratings (i.e. one star) without comment is indecent in my opinion.

I agree mostly.

Though I actually prefer to get a 1 star vote more than getting no vote.

When playing SFTF please vote Smile

I read this with big intrest.

I agree with Quit2 and can follow his scoring system, but i have to add 1 big one from myself:

" when the author does not take the effort to implement the special rules references as do the official scenarios ALL the time, i will ALWAYS rate a 1 star !
Simple because you can not play a game if you dont know the exact rules to use !
Also, it shouldnt be up to the players to know all the 'special rules ' by hart and they shouldnt have to dive into all there rulebooks because they dont remember where those rules are. "

I found if a player lost a scenario, it received a low score, but if he/she won then it was received well. As a result I don't put too much store in what rating any scenario I designed got. That said, all the ones which have been up long enough to have many plays are generally scored accurately because players that know the game get to play it more than once.

I agree, someone played a scenario and lost to Johnny on both sides, therefore he decided it was a 1* scenario!

I think the 3* method is a little messed up because it's really hard to keep a scenario 3, or have it fall to 1. I think it would have been better if it was thumbs-up versus thumbs-down.

I don't think a three point scale is grainy enough

Well that's true. I especially would like an online feature where I could rate the scenarios according to MY taste.
