newbie questions Thu, 29 November 2012 18:58
Just downloaded the game and I love my first two battles but I do have a couple of questions.

Why couldn't I use the my Ambush card? I tried to drag it on the field before the AI rolled for close combat but nothing ever happened.

Secondly, are there any online bonuses in this game for DoW purchases of other games?

thanks for the help

You have to "Arm" your Ambush card before you can use it. The use of Ambush is one of the only things you will want to watch the Tutorial for because it's different than a real-life game.

Basically the computer connection is too complicated for you to be able to drag it to the screen at the right time to play an Ambush, so you have to create an 'interrupt' for the game. Smile

Nope, there are no in-game bonuses that affect purchases of any kind. You can earn the achievements and advance in rank, but no monetary prizes are available.

Have fun, and welcome to the dark side!! Cool

I watched the tutorial but completely forgot about arming the Ambush card. I'll remember next time and thanks for the welcome.

No problem at all. The Ambush card is really the only one that is more 'video game' than 'board game'...because of the timing issue.

Also, you can pick if you want the computer to choose your Ambush Target or if you want to choose the target by going to the Settings area. Just know that if you choose to pick the target there will be a slight delay when an opponent does a close assault and you have the Ambush card...so he'll likely know that you have the card. My friend says he lets the computer pick the target, but decides whether to activate it on the turn or not.

You may have to activate it before the opponent switches from "Move" to "Battle" phase. I think if you turn it off during the Battle Phase, turning it on again might not work that turn.

I haven't tested it that thoroughly but encountered problems that suggest this.

What do the symbols mean in the "?" column?

I am referring to the big asterisk/star, the one-guy symbol, and the two-guy symbol.

Thanks.

asterisk: player is playing an expert game.
one guy: player is playing a solo game
2 guys: player is playing a multiplayer game.
nothing: player is in the lobby.

What about the bell symbol on the right side of the player card in the lobby? What does that do?

If you have someone selected in the list on the right-hand side of the screen and you then click on the bell. It will "ring" them.

Interesting... Well I'm sure some people were annoyed last night when I was clicking it over and over trying to figure out what it does. Haha.

Why do players honor dots show up as blue, or green in the lobby sometimes?

It is simply a quick way to alert you to the number of dots. Those with 5 dots will have those dots show up in green, those with 4 will show up as blue. Three dots show up as black, and one dot as red. I don't remember the color for 2 dots.

The color of the dots is relative to their number.

1 dot RED
2 dot ORANGE
3 dot BLACK
4 dot BLUE
5 dot GREEN

The plan is that everyone starts with 3 dots BLACK (neutral) and as a player plays out his/her games and does not quit during the game, the number of dots steadily increases. The players with GREEN have shown themselves to be dependable players and so could be trusted. The players with RED dots are suspect and either don't understand that quitting gives them dishonor (or they have a very bad internet connection).

So you get to be the judge when you select an opponent based on their honor rating.
