Monday it's april 1. Very Happy

Wouldn't it be fun to create and post some funny scenario's? I already did: "april 1 : gunfight at the OK corral"

So if you guys want to do the same I suggest the title starts with "april 1 :"

After a few days we can remove them and post our serious stuff again.

I can re-post my scenario, "The Biggest Loser." It pits the losing sides from two notoriously one-sided battles (Tenaru and Lipovec) against each other, on terrain that is a combination of the two scenarios.

(In the offline version of this scenario, there's a special rule that "If you draw an Air Sortie, you give it to the other player, and you draw a replacement card," because you don't deserve an airplane.)

That's great, but don't forget to put "april 1 :" in front in the title for this occasion. This way they are easier to find.

What marvelous fun!

I just posted a scenario that I hope players of all ranks will enjoy "April 1st: Attack on the Brigadiers' Bar."

Special rule: all players who have acheived the rank of Brigadier General MUST take the French side.

If anyone from DOW plays M'44 online anymore, please, invite me to a battle.

And, as always, good luck!

I am defending the Brigadier Bar at all cost against the Evil Jhonny. Granades are fired to the Bar. Several tanks have been taken out. Current standings 4-4.

The oasis had been in enemies hands for some turns, but our troops managed to kick the Gerries out. I was unable to defend the Duck pond as our tanks have been taken out completely. The ducks have taken shelter in the POW camp. Heavy Gerry artillery fire is currently covering the pond. The HMS Nellie seems unable to reach, with only one medal to go.
I have called in airsupport, but it is still to dark for the pilots to see the targets.
The swimming pool has not been taken. I repeat: The swimming pool has not been taken!

I will send in an update after the dies have rolled.

Stick to your radios and monitor the news. Do not leave the Brigadier Bar unescorted not even for a quick pee in the pool.

Message to all Generals and Brigadiers, the German artillery forepost has been taken out. The Brigadier bar has been saved. For those of you whom need to pee, watch your feet for grenade shelters on your walk to the pool.

Oh, thank heavens.

I just defended the same against a lieutenant, so the battle wasn't as fierce, said louie not being familiar with night rules and all that.

Perhaps we should send the ducks to the pool? Hope they are the lucky kind.

Thanks for your valient defense of our bar, our reputation, and our honor (in that order).

Great fun.

My rebels and me, a humble colonel, have defeated the Brigadiers and are looting the bar right now!
We were told to have fun, weren't we.

Well gentlemen, I played Your scenarios and here is my take on them:

Sam I could not find tThe Biggest Loser battle so no comments on that.

April 1st: - Raid on the Brigadier Bar (Lucky Duck)
Fun and very playable, won from both sides but I would give the advantage to the lower ranks in theory. In real life the Brigadiers defending the bar should always win, not only for their superior tactical competence but even more for their ability to think up some totally unexpected stupid move that in retrospect after the battle proved to be brilliant and win the day. ("Skiing down that slope without snow! Are you sure Sir?" "But of course we did it all the time when I was a fine young Captain like yourself." . . . . 'I can't believe that worked, Sir." Cool )

April 1: counter Attack on the Brigadier Bar (Helcat)
A nice revenge story with some nasty surprise, like the ones I told you about up there. Some special forces sneaking around in disguise!. And promising a medal for the Swimming Pool where it is actually in the pond. Well it's not the first time we had a mix up between those two. is it now fellow Brigadiers? If those ducks could tell stories we would have to have them debriefed thoroughly. Very Happy

April 1: Gunfight at the OK Corral (Dietrich von Kleist)
This one was surprisingly entertaining, and had the feel of the movie about it. Very well done! (I still think it is a pity I could not finish it as a battle. I would like to have it show up in my battle list and regale my grand children of how I fought in that historic battle.)

The fight was to the last man standing and ended with the truly classic scene of two adversaries staring at each other across the empty street, frightened villagers cowering in their houses praying that the last man standing is their favorite.

But because a picture says more than a thousand words:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/30626174/jerfotodiv/Shoot-out.png

As I played this battle against Hermann, I can assure you I did not stage this picture. I even rushed to make it because Hermann was firing at me, and with a flag could have ruined the whole composition. Shocked

Thank you gentlemen for entertaining as well as challenging us. Razz

Hmm, it was either too late in the night or too early in the morning, but thank you for your comments. Some minor adjustments have been made to the scenario.

I tried to make it my Public scenario, and I couldn't get it to work. (And then I had to go out, and didn't get back to it.)

Clearly, I have to shuffle my scenarios more frequently, so I don't forget the secret trick.

Hi Sam,

I have played it now. I give you kudos for the premise of pitching those sides together.
It ends up being a playable infantry battle which is hard on the Russians. The Japanese come on so quickly.
I would hazard an opinion that for the Russians a fighting retreat is the best option. Lure those Japanese closer to your Artilleries. For the Japanese I would say knocking out the Artillery in the middle is priority. (In my two games against Hermann the Japanese managed to do this both games.)

Thanks to everybody for taking time and effort to have made this april fools one to remember. Razz

Re:april fool battles Thu, 18 April 2013 15:13
I wonder if the OK Corral scenario wouldn't be more intense with some regular units (officers, single figure) to be hunted down by the snipers.

This gives more options :

-Snipers can hunt snipers or officers Mad

-Choice between moving officers to safety, or take risk and attack a sniper with the officer Confused

-Regular units mean scoring medals which adds another intense factor to the game. Shocked

The game can then be actually won, adding more tension.
This might surpass the funny April 1st ingredient somewhat, but I have the impression this scenario holds so much potential with a little tweaking. Would you consider this Dietrich von Kleist?

Re:april fool battles Fri, 19 April 2013 14:18
@ Moomer:

Thanks for the reply.

In this "april 1st" scenario I wanted to create a moviescene in which 2 times 4 single characters were dueling in the main street of Tombstone. because of the scale of the map I choose snipers, also because they are more difficult to kill.

I already tried to make some adaptions by replacing 2 riflemen (snipers) by pistol carying cowboys (ordinary soldiers). Problems: they are easier to kill, they move slower and shoot a lot less good than the others.
I also placed exit tiles on both opposit sides to give them a goal to head to.
But this scenario doesn't work well for the moment. Maybe I'll give it another try later.

But it isn't a bad idea to make a scenario in which single soldier troops try to make their way through a city or so. In this case it's best to have a lot of these units, otherwise the game can be over real soon.

I suppose the regular figures should be in cover at the start of the scenario, and the snipers in the street. Maybe an exit point would be good to give the regulars something to do. Cover should be used to the max when moving them. Adding more figures per unit might be an option... but maybe not...
