When your opponent can shoot 2:1 with the same odds (actually better with the inf/armour split), it becomes a pointless exercise. 4 probes and an arty attack with no arty doesn't stand much of a chance against TFH/DHQ/Assaults - I have come to the conclusion that the game dynamic is flawed much beyond playing "advanced yatzee". As with my last game, with my 17 shots in a row bouncing, the luck is just too overwhelming. It might add a nice element if there was a turn timer. Then at least the games wouldn't last close to an hour if the opponent plays slowly and quick "battlefield" decisions would be rewarded. The scenario was interesting at least. Thanks for designing it.

Boyd,

Thanks for the compliment on my scenario.

I have to say a 9-8 score with your opponent throwing over 40 more dice and an even hit percentage is unbelievable. You had to have played very well to stay that close. Obviously the cards were in Dugrim's favor. I try not to dwell on these kind of games. With the way the dynamics are set up, you're going to get them. Hopefully you'll not get too frustrated and continue to enjoy playing. I have another 'frustrating' tournament after this one. Hang in there.

And here are the scores:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30626174/M44%20Stuff/Schermafbeelding%202014-03-08%20om%2006.28.19.png

As stated by Eric, the Allies lead by 4 points. Best Axis player: Frostberg with 7 wins out of 9 and 74 medals to his name. Best Allied player: me! Cool 8 out of 9 wins and also 74 medals.

And another postcard, respectfully depicting our honorable opponents this time (I fear we will not be very gracious winners, so my advice to the Japanese would be to either destroy us in the last round or get ready for ridicule. Wink ):

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30626174/M44%20Stuff/Cards148a.jpg

by Saburo Miyamoto, published by Japanese Ministry of the Army

This determined - and bulky - Japanese soldier shown by artist Saburo Miyamoto trampling on American and British flags says, "We will not stop shooting." Published by the Japanese Ministry of the Army in celebration of its 38th anniversary, the image typified the resolve to fight to the last man, as they did on occasion, particularly in the early war. The soldier in this postcard is clearly well-fed, well-armed, and, from the size of his backpack, well-provisioned. He is also remarkably Western, looking more like an Asian GI Joe than the grotesque buck-toothed an near-sighted Japanese created by American cartoonists.

The next tourney will start when this one is completed. I don't know how long it will take to get through this round. Probably a few weeks at least. I have you as the first enrollee for the Western Front tournament!

van Voort 55/23 v 8/31 JJs Juggernaut

Tough battle in the middle where I had few cards and found myself sending in units from the flanks via the caves.

JJJ was able to grind through and get the win

The replay is here: http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=40 500861

I had many center cards in my starting hand, and soon drew more. Surprisingly I only say 3 tactic cards that game, but DHQ and an infantry assault were just the ones I needed to see.

Good game to van Voort, who obviously had a hard time getting center card (since I seemed to have all of them).

A good scenario and thanks to Looney for all the great scenarios, it has been a great tournament Smile

I hope I can join in the next one, and as it seem early signups are in progress I would deign to add my name to the list Laughing Razz Shocked Very Happy

Make that six up with 8 battles left.

Here is the link to the game:

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=40 531421#replay:turn=1

I prevailed by an 8 (34) to 6 (36) score.

The stats with my numbers listed first:

SHOTS: 84 to 84

HIT PCT: INF 40 to 47 / TKS NA to 30 / TOT 40 to 43

I lost three infantry in the center and two on my right. The Japanese also exited one unit. Can you guess which one? I killed off five center infantry and two on my left and took the bunker medal (on my last turn).

The Japanese had good cards, CLOSE ASSAULT, MOVE OUT, COUNTER ATTACK and three TFHs!

I also had good ones, three ASSAULTs, two DHQs and two INF ASSAULTs and a very timely M & M which revived two of my tanks.

My early dice were ghastly and I soon found myself in a bit of a hole. The Japanese TFHs could have buried me but their dice were a bit off two. I also suffered for a lack of center cards.

My right was in no shape to attack which left the center and left to do the job.

After the last Japanese TFH only ordered one unit (with a kill on a center CE Inf to make the score 6 to 5 Japanese) i had one option. My newly drawn DHQ gave me one chance. Three dice on a 1 fig infantry on my left and 7d against a 3 fig infantry on the medal bunker. I bagged the 1 fig infantry and swept the bunker clear and took ground to escape with a win.

One more turn for my opponenet would have spelled doom for me I fear.

Geoff--

We were up by 4 going into this round. Winning 3 would put us up by 7--but if the Axis win the other 7, then we tie. We need to win 4 to clinch the tournament.

3-1 this round for the good guy, up 6 with 6 to go, so JAParker is correct, 1 more win and ALLIES win overall.

Looking to get in my game in the week if March 24th, Artimon on holiday, by then the pressure might be off and can be just a "friendly" like it soccer!!

Well....

It looks like the tournament is over. I prevailed over Buidheo 8-4. I had great cards with slightly below average dice. Boyd could not get a center card throughout most of the game. He was unable to mount much of an attack or escape many units.

What I find surprising is that the percentage is only 59% Allies as of last night. It seems like it would be much more from the results so far. It still was a fun tournament and I appreciate everyone's participation. At least it went down to the last scenario to determine the winner.

I have started a new thread for the next tournament.

Perhaps I won't be the last one in terms of records Laughing with a win against Gonzalan for the final round.

Gonzalan : 2 medals and 18 figs - Artimon : 8 medals and ...11 figs Very Happy

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=40 660515

As you have certainly understood, I have won thanks to my legs as my troops ran away so fast than Gonzalan couldn't do anything to stop them. 5 medals thanks to the exited units. I had the perfect cards to retreat all my units and a Lucky shot on the advanced Us tank, allowing me to exit my units without risk.

Gonazalan was fair as usual even if the match should have been very frustating for him.

Thanks to Eric for this nice tournament and to all the players for the interesting and pleasant matches done together. Always a pleasure to play with all of you.

Héhé ! Generals, I have to announce that the last matches will be full of suspens !

Axis victory : 8-4 for the Japs.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/fr/battle/?id=40 661707

Today, my Japs oldiers had good morals and more important, very good shooting skills ! The battle took place in the middle of the field. The american left flank was almost neglected... The soldiers standing there were enjoying their peace.
Two Japonese units were also spared right at the beginning of the game. The rest of their units defended valiantly the fortified place.

Sam is, as all know, a really worthy opponent ! And although he was facing dice failure, or better said, lack of luck, he didn't point that out. A real pleasure. Also note that he took his revenge during the next round ! Razz

Thanks to Eric ! I joined for the first time his tournament, I learnt a lot and discovered very nice expert scenarii.

Come on Japs !

A case of the old fable, "Tortoise and The Hare", but in this instance, The Hare got the better of it!!

Very well done by Artimon, apparently his Holiday did him some good and he came back rested and refreshed and ready to battle!! Sort of... Laughing

12 turn battle, the 3 cards he used, INF ASLT, CENTER ALL and PROBE 2, he used on turns 8, 10 & 12 and exited the 5 units, 3 with INF ASLT and 2 with PROBE, in between killed the 3 others and used the cards he had beautifully to position his units and thus EXIT....not much I could have done...maybe kill 1-2 more by moving up, but he still had the units in the bunkers and ridge to forestall my advance and wiped out my one tank on my RIGHT with a 3-4 roll....

I rolled 18-33 all on INF and he was 11-22, 8-18 INF, 3-4 ARM.....I shot well, just didn't have the targets to shoot at!! Rolling Eyes

Thank you Eric, 6 great scenarios, 4 not so great Laughing, my record for the PACIFIC FRONT...on to the WESTERN FRONT and see if we can make some noise and not have it ALL QUIET there....

SAC Gheintze:

I am happy to report another Allied victory!

JAParker vs. Lucky91

8-3 Medals, 33-17 figures

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=40 692744

The story here was the cards--I was able to roll 80 dice to Luc's 51. The dice percentages were about the same for Infantry, but I had advantage overall there as well (my numbers first):

Infantry 41-44; Armor NA-29; Artillery NA-NA; Overall 41-33

The other significant thing about the cards was that Luc never had any pure Center cards--which made it difficult to exit any units (in fact, he did not exit any units at all).

We played a "for fun" rematch as well, which was much closer, although I won that one as well.

http://www.daysofwonder.com/memoir44-online/en/battle/?id=40 693242

Number of dice thrown was more equal (72-63 in my favor), but I had a definite advantage on hit percentages:

Infantry 52-34; Armor 27-NA: Artillery 0-50; Overall 46-35

Thanks to Luc for his positive attitude in face of adversity, and also for putting up with my less than adequate wireless connection!

Well, Droopy and myself have played our game also. And he prevailed. An 8-7 victory for the Axis

As reflected by the score, the game was tense and in the end we both could have won.

A Medic and mechanic Droopy played seriously thwarted my plans for the win. And In the second to last turn I failed to protect my single man infantry, but went for the kill, thus allowing the traitorous Japanese Wink to run via the caves and get him.

I should have blocked those caves, but . . . Smile

A deserved win for Droopy.

Here is a link to the rematch, but as we know after the exit the scorekeeping is nonexistent: Replay game 1

I still have the feeling that the Allies have the upper hand in this, but Droopy stated he thought the Axis has it easier. Just play defence and escape units.

Well the rematch proved him right: my first four turns were an exodus of Japanese through the exit. I fired only 6 shots but I scored:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30626174/M44%20Stuff/Escape.png

Five medals, including a one fig infantry that just survived a barrage. After that we fought in the middle u till I got the other three medals, the last of which I got by artillery bombarding the engineers of the objective medal, thus reducing Droopy's score even further.

Not as enjoyable as the first game.

rematch

Thanks for the games Droopy, especially the first one. very tense and exciting!

So only one match remaining, and still some excitement for me personally. I now stand 8 wins 2 losses (Droopy and Artimon, respect gentlemen Smile ) 81 medals, but if Frostberg wins he will beat me with 8-2 and 82 medals. So hold the fort Antoi! Cool
