I am not sure how to organise a 5 player game.

I go to quick play, switch the switch, and it gives me the option... But when I press play it just sits there waiting forever.

That's normal... It can be hard to get m-player games. But most other games allow you to create the game, then just leave it a while til people join. This app seems to make you sit there staring at a waiting screen, until you give up. Am I missing something here?

Well, you're probably missing other players who want to play a 5-player game. Razz To play more than a 2-player game, the other players, I believe, need to select the number of players just like you did. So what's probably happening is that not enough people have time or want to play a 5-player match all in one sitting.

Right... Which is why other matching systems kind of leave the request out there - meaning it can be picked up any time over the following days.

This system seems to require you to sit staring at a waiting screen.

That's because you're trying to play a Quick Match (which, by definition, starts when everyone is ready and plays through in one sitting). The best way, at this point, is for you to start an Asynch game with four of the people on your "Buddy" list. That's more what you're talking about because the other players can jump into the game when it's their turn and it can be played over the course of several days.

Good luck and have fun!

Gotcha. So I need buddies...

This quickplay matchmaking system seems weirdly designed, to be honest.

I finally got into a 5 player game. One person didn't move. Everyone waited. Game timed out, and self-destructed.

Basically, one person can wreck a 5 player game for everyone else...

I heartily agree with the sentiments here, the quickplay feature is better than nothing, but seems really lackluster beyond existing. It would be really great to have a little more control over a quick play game, like being able to organize and asynchro quick play and come back later as mentioned.

You can organize an asynchronous game, but it's not in the Quickplay section. Just hop down to the Online with Buddies section and set up whatever type and whatever size of game you want. Then players can take their time and enjoy a relaxed game that might take a week to finish, or an hour, or 25 minutes.

But the Quickplay section is just that; quick.

You obviously haven't ever been sitting, staring at the screen for an hour for a multiplayer game. It's a misnomer.

The more people that have a hard time getting into multiplayer games with this new app, and getting discouraged from trying it--before long it will just be a 2-player gaming portal--wait--that's what SW1 was! I've just been sitting here tonight trying to host a 4-player game. This Troll has been whacking the snot out of this Ghoul for over an hour now, and still no "quick play."

Wanted to register my disappointment as well.

I don't have enough buddies to start even a 4 player asynchronous game. And the buddies I do have are currently unavailable to play. So I go to quick play and set the number to 3 players and wait. and wait. and wait. Slave to the screen until I run out of time to play.

I could play a bunch of 2 player games, I guess, and add my opponents to my buddy list thereafter, but there's no way of contacting people I'm buddies with in Small World but not in real life in order to make sure they really want to and are available to play a 4 or 5 player asynchronous game over the next day or few.

I realize that the game was just released and that the "team" is working hard on the android port, but when they get a free moment, the quick play system is going to need some help. (bots picking up when people abandon a game is going to be necessary, too, I'm afraid)

As an aside, it would be nice to be able to add bot opponents to buddy games, since it gets a little boring playing only 2 player all the tiime.

I don't have enough buddies...

I appreciate everything you're saying, and I don't disagree with any of it. I'm glad others are voicing their concerns.

I do want to give you just 1 piece of advice, if I may, which may help solve the problem you've mentioned. Virtual buddies, like real life buddies can come from people you've made connections with, shared conversations with, and admired from afar. The DOW forums (as well as the BGG forums) provide you with a place to do all of that. Keep your eyes open here on the forums and get involved in conversations here (and over at BGG on the Small World forums). Lurking will never get anyone a buddy, but if you dive in and interact there's a good chance you will make those connections you are missing and find people who share your love of this game (and others). Then all you have to do is send them an email here (or there) that you want to add them as an in-App buddy, then 1 invitation later you are in a game! Do this often enough, and you will have a large enough pool of buddies that you are sure to find people online when you are online.

Good luck!
