The word 'tournament' is being thrown around quite a lot. League should by definition be different to tournaments.
Perhaps what would be time better Spent would be to pester daysofwonder to include a pop-up or tournament calendar to the ipad and Android versions of the game to get new players. I can't see you getting a dozen new players for a few small format changes.

I'd really suggest mailing anyone playing nc who isn't in league to try and get them on board now they are lookin at PMs and have a taste for competitive play.

As for Swiss thing... Biggest problem in league (other than losing your division if you don't play) is people not playing on time so if you're wanting a system that needs everyone to play before the next round is computed then you're out of your minds. Obviously someone is itching to try it out, but league isn't suitable!

I'd like to play a swiss tournament. Never played a tournament so far, would be interesting to see how it goes!

All is pretty well, except having to start over... played a bunch of random games yesterday, and wasn't paying attention to ratings, so I'm gonna probably start in the 1350s out of provisional-ness.

I certainly don't need to take over or anything, though I'd be happy to play next season, whatever form it takes Very Happy

While topic is up, it would be your last chance for suggestions.

At the moment, we go towards a single season League a year for US Map and Euro map.
  • Both leagues wouldn't be running at the same time.
  • US league from late December/January to SPWC (may)
[*}Euro League from May to late September.
  • Longer league, bigger groups, keeping flexibility in the scheduling.
  • Telo would be used as a basis for the groups.

The goals we promoted in the discussions we had (mainly) with Qorlas and Drake after having consulted many players) :
more competitive games for everybody, a stronger Division A.

Qorlas is trying to find the ladder which would make more sense.
It does not make sense to have a Division D/E along with a single season.
If you want to stay in/reach Division A, you would need to deserve it... But everybody could have a shot at it.

I thought I'd give some of my opinions, both from my vague recollections here and a similar format I've been running over on another site with another game:

    - Drake is absolutely right about having bigger groups = more problems.... most of the time, people lose interest because they're losing. If you keep it short, people will be more likely to finish up (and perhaps not play next time) as opposed to torturing them by having to play lots of games when they have no hope.

-- Sounds like there have been scheduling issues.. I recall some minor issues when I was in charge, but it seems like it got worse. Perhaps having the scheduling be out in the open, so it's clear who's at fault? Maybe a thread for each division, where players could post their availability?

If the divisions are kept smallish (that's my theme, I guess) it would be OK. That way, Drake could post 'I'm available from x - x on Tuesday... anyone what to play?' People who don't post anything, you'll know they're not trying that hard.

-- If committment is the problem, why not more single night/day tourneys, instead of a league. If they're regular, (like, every 3rd Tuesday or whatever), people would probably turn out.

-- Or, Perhaps, instead of the current format, maybe several shorter leagues could take place during the year (4 - 6 games) with random draws, with winners earning a spot in a champion's league at the end of the year?

We are going towards larger groups because in this way people will be able to aim for the top division just with one good season.

The trouble was not the scheduling in itself but the habit of exploiting only the last quarter of the season to play all the games. We are going to add intermediate goals of games played for a certain date.

Going to smaller divisions was tried (Euroleague) but didn't solve the trouble.

On Monday I am going to post my idea for the league togehter with the announcement, so there is still the weekend to give contribution Smile

*Schedule was already in the open with one thread per division Wink

*League is going to be kept because lot of people like the feeling of the RR tournament and we keep it as opposed to the KO tournament that are SPWC, EMC

Intermediate goals for games played seems like a really good idea!

I was in both A divisions before. And i'd like to stay there - although i don't have many TELO points cause i didn't play the other tournaments. So TELO shouldn't be the only qualification criterion.
