What do you tink of this house rule? Sat, 11 January 2014 21:25
on the last round of the game (original or underground) everyone collects their victory coins based on what is on the board after the last players turn. (instead of the usual collecting coins after your redeployment) I think that that balances things for the last player because they have to deal with all the other players last punches instead of one or two depending on the order you are in. This also gives you more incentive to still attack any player because that will affect how many coins they get at the end of the round.
I think this also balances things and makes up the advantage the first player has at the beginning of the game when he gets to pick the first race.

So in short it gives 1st player a disadvantage to balance the advantage he gets at the beginning of the game.
Thoughts?

I don't mind it, but I feel that playing first can be a disadvantage rather than an advantage: you're the first to be attacked and the first to lose troops in most cases. You are often forced into declining the earliest.
Not to say that playing first doesn't have its perks, but to me, it's not so much of an advantage to warrant this house rule.

However, the beauty of the board game is that if you like playing this way and deem it the most fair, then you are absolutely allowed and encouraged to do that!

My thought is that this that though laudable, this idea is not enough. At the last but one turn, you've got everybody against the last player, sort of. Then he/she plays, but what does he/she have left, if everybody attacjked him/her before ? Barely a few tokens to attack. And making everybody lose regions so that they score less ? Sounds a little too optimistic. In a 5, 4 or even 3 player game, the last player would have a hard time to make everybody lose regions ! At best, for one player. Did I explain myself clearly ?

And, like said above, there are advantages to begin last. When everybody entered the map, you can either be the first to make someone lose regions, or you can pick a region of the map that wasn't conquered yet. And knowing that declining never happens following a constant pattern, there are matches where the last player can perfectly be the strong one during their "last but one" turn, so that would definitely be a disadvantage for the others.
