Cliffs vs Sea Bluffs Sun, 06 July 2014 16:14
Just playing about with the new D-Day Landings and had a question:

"Cliffs: When a Hill hex is next to an Ocean or Coastline hex, it is called a Cliff."

"Sea Bluffs: When a Hill hex is next to a Beach hex, it is called a Bluff."

Which trumps? There are a few Hill hexes that are next to both a Beach hex as well as a Ocean/Coastline hex.

Both Hill half hexes on either side the Juno map, Hill half-hex between Gold/Omaha - at least that I can see.

Anyone come across the issue during play? (Looking for a clarification - not a "do what you like and have fun" response")

Not sure why you are confused by this. Whatever terrain type the attacker is in against a unit in a hill hex. So, if attacking from a coastline hex, cliff rules apply / if from beach, bluff rules a apply / if from inland side use the rules that apply there.

TC - long time since we've spoken.

The issue is that infantry can take ground against a Bluff, but not against a Cliff.

The rules for Cliffs/Sea Bluffs make no reference to the hex the attacker is in. They simply state how to define the Hill hex (if adjacent to ocean or coastline - Cliff; if adjacent to Beach - Sea Bluff)

Not a big deal. We decided that since the half-hexes we not playable in single map form, that they would be the more 'difficult' terrain in double map - so we treated them as Cliffs.

After re-reading, it seems that the distinction on taking ground does depend on the hex the attacker occupies, but this comes into play only _after_ the Hill hex is defined.

In practice, on the map, it doesn't make a difference. If you're on the coast - can't take ground, if you're on the beach, you can

Played Omaha today... a blast - setting up is very 'zen-like'

have to get off the beach fast...

Hi JP.

I plan on playing Omaha this Saturday and intend to do a one map run through of all 6 single maps. After the pratice, I will do double maps.

At WBC, the whole enchilada will be the order of the day.
