Looking for VASSAL PBEM opponent Mon, 27 August 2007 03:00
I enjoy playing BL CtA PBEM on VASSAL but my last opponent has lost interest. Please contact me at deichen@frontiernet.net if you want to play PBEM. I'm really regular, easy going and like a good game.

Thanks,
-Dick-

So, how do you play BL as a PBEM game. I'd be interested.

I'm game. Too late for me to make contact tonite though. My email is (mola76 AT sbcglobal DOT net). I don't know that I can get to a move every single day but usually have my moves out within a day and half or so.

PBEM with VASSAL:

First, the VASSAL module developer built it so that play flows back and forth between the players. So, if I am player 1, I can see player 1's cards, but not player 2's and vice versa.

Second, setup requires a few mailings to work through the "draft" process and the specialist cards. Player 1 sets up then player 2.

Third, the game works by recording activities in a log file, then saving the log file and sending it. The other guy walks through the log file step-by-step, recording a new log if things happen during the turn (BBs, for example). If something drastic happens, then recorded log is stopped and the new log is sent so the original player can change things.

Normally, though, I like to reduce the number of mailings if possible. So when I know I'm going to trigger a BB, I don't expect to have to do a partial turn mailing. I'll do my entire turn and see what happened with the BB. The only possible exception is if a spell is thrown that totally changes my turn; then a mailing is unavoidable.

Works pretty well. I've played about half a dozen games this way. I expect the new expansions should be showing up any day now.

Got your email and will try to get something going tonite (unless you want to send the first move). I'll play anything. Besides Beta testing, I haven't played CtA on Vassal yet.

Status of the new expansions: Bilben04 is having difficulty implementing the Epic version in the current module. He wants to finish that before adding in the specialist packs. So I don't expect them any day now.

He has my scans of the first two specialist packs and the Epic board. But I haven't gotten him the scans of the last two specialist packs yet. Hopefully, I can get that done tonite as well!

BB = Battle back.

In Vassal, you can roll your opponent's battle back dice for him to save a step in emailing back and forth.

Thanks for the welcome, Roobarb.

Only recently discovered BL (about two weeks ago) and M44. I'm hooked, especially on BL. I've already played all the scenarios in the basic game and the Epic Agincourt.

I played all the basic scenarios with a friend while I was waiting for my copy to arrive at my FLGS and did not realize that these boards existed, so I did not post any battle reports until I played this past weekend--first experience with Epic BL.

Hope to find the time to figure out the VASSAL PBEM system.
