I think Hardy Kruger plays a fictional character too. But he did his character really well, I think.

Ironically, the first warfilm I can remember thinking 'hey, they got the tanks right' was Kelly's Heroes, and that's a comedy! (Great film)

From memory I reckon there were some US Chaffees and/or Walker Bulldogs in Battle of the Bulge masquerading as German tanks.

Actually, I understand that the Tiger tanks were T-34's modified to look more like Tigers.

We are starting to repeat ourselves, gentlemen.  A Bridge Too Far has already made the cut. Read my signature.  You know now that I think about, we may have discussed ABTF on the older thread before Roob and I switched over to this film-only topic a few months back! Anyway, I agree that it's a fun film, and I think it has some of the best characters/dialogue of the genre, and it's great shift in war commentary. Let me bump my latest lines, and see if anyone bites.

lol, I do the same, with the same reaction. For what it's worth they actually used German tanks (leopards), right nationality, wrong time period, wrong paint job...

just wached cross of iorn on the tv again what turely awsome film i think i was about 5 when i first saw it and at 5 it was my fav move that and the killing feilds i know what your thinking what where my mum n dad thinking...well i was a very serious child with an old head so i guess im regressing

Back in Feb. 2006, I posted a question on Forum about a movie I saw when I was in young, around 1976-1977, and wanted to see again. To this day I am still looking for the film. Maybe someone can remember and help me.
Here is the description of the movie that I remember. 1) Main story is about a man who is a leader of a group fighting Nazies. 2) He gets involved with a girl. 3) One scene shows Nazies opening fire on captured civilians inside barbed wire. 4) During the movie, the man gets himself captured while wearing civilian clothes and manages to escape while being marched with other civilians. 5) The last scene shows the man in battle, wounded but still shooting while credits starts. 6) Movie is filmed in color.
Any help or hints helping me track down this movie would be deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I LOVE that show....COMBAT! had great staying power. I remember a TV interview in which it was relayed that US soldiers in Vietnam would watch it because it represented so close, what they were going through in many ways. That's impressive for a TV show.
I was more interested in the Vic Morrows "Sgt Saunders" character (obviously) as a kid, but re-viewing the episodes as an adult, I am really appreciating Rick Jason's "Lt. Hanley" role. He was an amazing actor, and a real nice guy.
I saw another interview with Vic Morrow in which he spoke of not liking the decision to go color in the 5th season...he thought it took away from the gritty look of the show. He may be right, but I still love those episodes too.
My biggest regret is finding that there was a "COMBOAT" cruise several years ago, that had almost all the cast in attendance...this was just before Dick died, and Rick committed suiside. What a missed opportunity to meet these incredible actors.

My goodness, that's right...I forgot that I mentioned it before! I must be getting old in mind before my time. It's really too bad that our counties use different formats with the DVD/VHS format. Hopefully COMBAT will be released in your format soon. Of course, if you get here to the States someday, you can look me up and we can have one heck of a COMBAT marathon!
