Bonuses vs. Terrain restrictions Tue, 22 June 2004 04:10
Do tactic card bonuses (Finest Hour, Firefight) allow a unit to fire on a target that gives it a "roll 0 dice" due to terrain restrictions? For example, if an infantry unit was ordered with a firefight card to shoot at a target that was three hexes away and was in a woods hex, does it roll one die or lose out on the attack? In other words, does the bonus come first or the terrain restriction?

My apologies if this has been covered before or is in the rules but I can't find it!

yes, as long as your number of dice (bonus included) is greater than zero, roll away! Very Happy

the easiest thing to do with bonus dice is to go ahead and set the bonus battle dice aside, count out your range, then add the bonus battle dice to the dice you have after range is accoounted for(0-3)

It isn't a problem adding it up. It's just a matter of whether it's allowed. What if a target is four hexes away from an infantry (in normal terrain), surely a +1 bonus doesn't allow an infantry to roll one die against it!

Erich, I'll take your word for it (of course), but I'm fairly certain that the ruling was different for Battle Cry.

I stand corrected, Eric (sorry to spell your name wrong). The Battle Cry faq says a bonus cannot extend the physical *range* of a unit (so an Infantry could never shoot four hexes away), but it does not mention terrain restrictions. I guess the terrain restrictions have more to do with aim and firepower and that's what the bonuses "counteract". Thanks for the clarification!
