This is the first game I ever played that I don't mind loosing Fri, 28 September 2007 16:02
I was wondering if anyone else out there felt the same way I do? I'm having so much fun playing this game that I really don't mind loosing. Now don't take me wrong I like to win, I'm just stating that this game puts your mind at ease and instead provides you with the yearning that one hopes for from a game like this.

I have found that this game's success is based off of several factors:
- the command cards
- your dice roles
- your overall strategy on the board
- the lore cards
- having fun
- DWARVES (just kidding, I just really like dwarves)
with no item taking larger importance over the other.

I find that the mix of all the items listed above contributes to your success and or failure, which eliminates repetitive elements found in a lot of games of this genre. So with that being said I would like to congratulate Days of Wonder, Richard Borg and every single person that put their hard work and energy into this game, for a job well done!! Bravo!!!

In the base game, imho the dwarves definitely have the advantage, but after purchasing all of the expansions to date, I feel that the dwarves are currently the poor cousins, honestly. Get the expansions, and you'll see what I mean.

But yeah, I know what you're talking about. My best friend and I played a 3 hour game the evening before last, non-epic mind you, and it came down to one valiant charge by me that failed, and his counter strike took the final flag. We were 6 and 6 up till that point. We were playing Goblin Chevuche (spelling is likely wrong) and he was the Gobbos. Anyway, my point was that despite his rolling like a demon (wiping out my red cavaly in the 2nd turn of the game with a blue unit, on one roll??!!!) the game was so tense that after his attack roll, we both nearly fell down laughing. Strategy had put us into a situation of which only the dice gods could sort out, and they were apparently in his favor. Did I care? I certainly would have preferred to win, but the fact that I did that well in that heavily biased scenario made me feel good, AND he's a registered DBA warmaster took the cake.

Hands down, it's the best wargame I've ever played. It might be wargames light, but it's right up there with settlers of catan; as near to perfect as a board game can be.

I feel the same way. I know there is a lot of luck in this game, so I just want to play well, i.e. make good tactical decisions and manage my resources well, and hope for some lucky and timely die roles.

Also, all of the eye candy really adds to the joy of playing, regardless of how well I'm doing.

Add me to that list also. One can quibble forever about rules, but it's just a lot of fun to play! Laughing

Like all my favored games, winning is important as it drives the action, but watching that action unfold and take surprising turns is really what I'm looking for and BL has those in abundance. I love the stories that the gameplay tells. I do not mind losing this game at all, and I have certainly had some spectacular losses Laughing
