Playing With Expansions

Haven't been playing Battlelore a long time yet, but have recently purchased a whole bunch of the expansions. Maybe I was a little overwhelmed by all that I've now got, but is there anything that explains how to incorporate the expansions into the game? I haven't seemed to have found any scenarios that use the different expansions, so does this mean I have to use call to arms? I did try using call to arms but it became very confusing because of all the different units available & the fact that we were both wanting a mixture of dwarves & goblins & humans. Basically it seems like there are all these expansions & not much to explain how they are used in a game....or maybe its just me.

All right, let me be more straight forward. I have a whole bunch of expansions & outside of the scenarios that come with each, how else do I use them. In other words I want to be able to use all of the units that I now have. Can I simply substitue them into a game via the deployment cards in cta? In other words if the card shows 2 dwarf units, can I use ANY dwarf units?

On a few games I've been playing without the specialist cards, but am using the CtA deployment cards. After dealing out the CtA deployment cards, just exchange a standard blue unit (from the base set) for specialist blue units, green for a green unit, red for a red unit, and various combinations (2 green for one blue and vice versa). Yes, using the exchange could throw the game out of balance, but with a game as so random as BL is, it's not very noticable. With this method you can exchange as many units you like so you can use all the cool specialist units. I used this method to play all Dwarves verse Gobs. It worked out well and the Gobs won by one unit
P.S. If your adding in lots of Gobs for Human or Dwarf you may want to give the Gobs one extra reinforcement unit. The panic run damage really makes them a weaker unit.

You can of course incorporate your new units into the game using the scenario editor on DOW's battlelore website. It allows you to pick exactly which units you want to play with.

The Official position, as far as I know it, is what Roobarb has laid out -- you can only use limited numbers of the specialist units using the CTA system -- this is why CTA was the first expansion released; it creates the foundation system for introducing the other elements of the game.
However, my own speculation (and this IS purely speculation on my part) is that with the release of 100 years war and the pending Scottish Wars, we now have sufficient units to field race-specific armies. Such armies would need to have specialized CTA rules to accomodate the new units. Why have a Gobbo army if you can't include the Ostrich riders, spear bearers, drum thumpers, etc? (And what a magnificant army it would be with all of those!). However, the official CTA rules do not permit this type of utilization of all the new units that have been released.
So, here's to hoping that DoW has in mind an upcoming release to modify the CTA rules for race specific (including human) armies. Even if I were to play medieval BL, I would love to field a human army with hornblowers, spear bearers, arbalestiers, halberdiers, etc. instead of being limited only to two specialist cards. Otherwise, why buy all the expansions? It only makes good business sense for DoW to do this rules update......

No insider information here, but I'm pretty sure that there will be race specific deployment decks in the future. Or maybe that's personal expectations filtering my hearing
