Hi there,

The rules will be following shortly as we are playtesting the final version.

More troop types will be introduced card by card and also the rules for using a warcommand will be listed.

Basically, there are just some addaptions to the basic rules.
Instead of using rougues, wizard, priests and warriors will be replaced by infantry, cavalry and artillery generals.

We will keep on using the command cards, but will adapt a couple to allow for the 'green', 'red' and 'blue' type units.

Green = light; blue = line; red = heavy

Special rules will be added for guards, voltigeurs, cossacks, etc...

Keep an eye out for it.

Regards,

Silverwings

PS: today light infantry is added

Hi Silverwing

Looks great, but I would Light infantry hit on a shield too or would a shield hit be treated as a Flag. Light troops push back the opponents and rather than kill them,,, just a thought,
Or should I keep my trap shut? I know how hard it is to develope a game, everyone has diffrent views.
Cheers
Mike
PS I have done playtesting for a few published games and the developers were happy for the help, if I can be of help please let me know. As to rules they are always secure and I can mail you directly with the play test results.. if you'll have me of course.
Here is my gaming Email name

Awesome,by the time an official c and c napoleonics comes out we'll all be old and grey so its good to see fans take matters in their own hands and make their own versions. It still astounds me as to why no publisher has picked this version of the sytem up as it would definately be one of the most popular eras in warfare and perfect for the c and c system.

Hi cutter,

I agree with that completely Smile

We have a large range of army cards and everything actually, so if you, or anyone else would like copies of those, send me your email addresses and I will mail you the rules, the army cards (French, Russian and British up until now) and the tactic cards (which replace wizards, priests,etc..with infantry, cavalry and artillery generals).

These rules are free, just made by gamers for gamers.

Check out battlelorecamp.page.tl for previews and some downloads. The finished files, I can send by mail.

Best regards,

Silverwings

Hi Roobarb,

Special regiments will follow on the site (French Old Guard,Cossacks, Hussars,...).

We have an extensive playtest version of leadership and tactics, replacing the standard priest-wizard-rogue. Playtesting hasn't finished yet, so just a little while longer.

Field leaders is an interesting idea, but very hard to incorporate in the game. Game balance is hard to maintain if you have on and off-field leaders all with special abilities and cards to play.

We are looking for a system that would prevent 'powerplay'.

Any suggestions are always welcome.

Kind regards,

Silverwings

Probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but the way power is balanced in BL is by making risk balance nicely with reward. The more powerful the effect a unit has on the board, the more fatal the flaw(s?). Red's pack a punch, but that punch is useless if it can't reach a target. Green units move fluidly across the board, but once they catch there prey, don't have much margin for error when striking. Creatures have devestating abilities, but are costly to field and vulnerable to freak accidents Twisted Evil As long as any element brought into the game has a real weakness that can be exploited, 'powerplay' will be prevented. So far, I'm very pleased with how DoW/Borg are handling this balance, and looks like you all are doing a fair job of it yourselves Smile

Hi all,

Today, our website sees the release of French Chasseur Light Cavalry.
These troops were mostly used for scouting, hence their ability to generate lore for their controlling player. This represents the fact that they are gathering info concerning enemy army compostion and troop movement.

Furthermore, we are re-developing the site to get a more clear interfaace, splitting the Napoleon/historical/fantasy/general parts of the battleloregame into different startpages.

Check it all out at our site www.battlelorecamp.page.tl

Enjoy!

Hello everybody,

We just added the first Russian unit: Line infantry to our growing list of Army Cards. Click on the link to check these out.

So...are we finished with the French? Nooooo....lots more to come: artillery, Carabiniers, Militia, Old Guard, Young Guard, Middle Guard,...We just thought it was time to release some units for France's enemies so that people can start playing.

Have fun,

Silverwings

Ps: Thanks to all people who are helping us along with our rules and updates! We appreciate it.

Hi all,

3 new additions to the site:

Russian light infantry: we changed the rules for light infantry, allowing them a 2/2/1 attack value with no modifiers for moving. They hit on color and count shields like flags. They have, however, only 3 figures, to represent their vulnerability. These troops were used to exploit terrain and disrupt the enemy.

French Dragoons : Cavalry with guns or mounted infantry? somewhere in the middle, this unit is a real multifunctional one.

Russian and French Army pages with details on how to build an army.

Take a look at battlelorecamp

Good stuff silverwings,i'm glad you changed the lights to 221 as it makes more sense as it simply means that they fire the same as other infantry but are weaker in mellee.

I returned to check out what has been happening, and found this thread. I have used C&C Ancients, and used it to build a Napoleonic version, and added leadership to allow special play of tactic cards.

I created army cards for the various units. I have reviewed your work, and it appears that we have followed similar paths.

Good work, I am happy with the way this has worked, and am transferring this to rework the Battlecry system.

Only a question about Russian Army: it's said that the Army must have at least so many infantries as other units, but the other limits this is an useless indication:
Cavalry 1on5
Artillery 1on5
Guard 1on6
that means that for each 3 different units you will have at least 6 infantries--> is it right?

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Wed, 26 December 2007 09:11
Geki,

Since the limitations are set for 1 in 5, it means if you have 11 units for example, you are allowed (For Russia):

up to 3 cavalry units (1 in 5)
up to 3 artillery units (1 in 5)

Among all units up to 2 may be Guard (1 in 6).
So, in this case you would have 6 cavalry & artillery but only 5 infantry. This is not allowed, you would have to lose 1 cavalry/artillery and take 1 extra infantry.

This is because you can have 1 of the cav/art for every 5 units (or part there of).

Hope this helps you out.

Today we will yet release 2 new cards. The French light infantry card will also change to fit the updated rules (3 figures instead of 4 but 2/2/1 attack score).

Have fun during the holidays....

Hi all,

Today I've added Russian Militia
Russian Grenadiers
French Curassiers
to the site. Click on them to go there.

Both armies are growing nicely. Next up is artillery for both
Russian and French plus some Russian Cavalry.

Note that we have also changed 3 French Infantry cards:
Voltigeurs, Light Infantry and Grenadiers.

Voltigeurs got a special ability making htem harder to kill but reducing their attack to 1/2/2. Light infantry now matches the Russian version (2/2/1 and only 3 figures) and Grenadiers had are now 3/2/1 and bold for 30PV. They are, after all, not so strong as the real guard...

Special thanks to our German tester and co-developer Mike for coming up with nice twists for the unit abilities.

Today, we have added Russian Hussars and French Carabiniers to our site.

Hi all,

New additions to our site today:

French Light Artillery
Russian Dragoons

French light artillery can also be mounted, at an extra cost.
We tried to make the artillery potent but not overpowering. Medium artillery will have a little more power, but will be slower. France and Russia also have artillery corps: very powerfull, but cannot be moved.

Next up: Napoleon's Young Guard!

Check it all out...

Cheers,

Hi Roobarb,

Yes, there will be British troops. I actually already have all the army cards but I'm releasing everything piece by piece to allow us time to test.

Prussian are finished.

The British will have rocket troops, riffle companies, King German Legion, Highlanders and so on.

If you can't wait, send me a mail at tom_haesendonckx@hotmail.com and I'll mail you all the cards you would like.

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Tue, 08 January 2008 16:07
Maimed,

I have made the Russian Grenadier stronger than the French.

The French will have young, middle and old guard though. Especially the Old Guard will be hard (at 45 PV, they need to be). The Middle guard will be about as strong as the special guard regiments of the Russians.

For the Russians I have 2 special guard regiments (the Pavlov and Litowski regiments). These got some fame for their brave battle actions (in for example Borodino).

Both the French and Russian will have acces to an 'artillery corps', which will be a heavy artillery unit.

Other nations will not have these as only Russia and France actually had a real Corps with artillery.

Once again, if you would like more cards, mail me at tom_haesendonckx@hotmail.com and I will send them to you.

Cheers,

Tom

Re:Napoleonic Rules for Battlelore Wed, 09 January 2008 10:24
Hi all,

Today, we have added the French Young Guard to our army list.

We have made them light infantry with a move of 2 and no penalties for moving and firing. Although they hit like light infantry, the unit consists of 4 figures (as opposed to the 3 of standard light infantry) and they begin the game BOLD. They loose their bold status after they have lost a figure.

We tried to make a unit that is easier to deploy as the heavy grenadiers (the Old Guard did not get commited that often), hence the larger move allowance without penalty. However, we also tried to balance it, by giving less staying power to the unit (loose bold status after first casualty).

Overal, they are reliable infantry, but should not be left to their own devices to carry an assault. That's what the heavies are for after all...

Have fun experimenting with hem.

Next up: The Russian Pavlov Grenadier.

Hi all,

IMPORTANT add-on to our site.

We have put the first of 3 add-ons to our site:

Infantry tactical cards

We have replaced the war council with a version of our own, mixing Army commanders, infantry, cavalry and artillery generals together, using the same system as the war council in the original games.

Check out: The Commanders and generals
Lore and Tactics

This system will turn your games upside down as realism and unexpected events will turn the tide of battle. A well-timed square will stop those currassiers, but will that artillery unit pound my squared infantry...

Cavalry and artillery tactic cards are ready and will follow next.

Take a look and have fun.

Cheers,

Silverwings

I created some variant rules for Battle Cry which, if you don't know, is an ancestor of Battlelore's. There's even a Waterloo scenario. You can find them here:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/battlelorecalltoarms/

...in the files section under 'Napoleonics'.

I haven't looked properly at your rules yet Silverwings, but I will. Looking forward to it.

In the meantime, if there's anything about my rules that you like feel free to lift it for your own.

Hope Richard's Napoleonic game sees daylight sometime soon!

Yangtze,

It seems I cannot acces the files because I am not a member... Shocked

I am not sure if Richard Borg is planning a release of 'historical Napoleonics'. Maybe as an expansion or so...because as far as figures are concerned there is already a lot available, so the return in sales would be low I guess.

Unless we will see French High Elf Currassiers, Undead Russian Infantry...that would be kinda interesting. I remember there was a game called Flintloque on 28MM scale that did something similar.

Anyway, in the meanwhile...I guess we'll just enjoy what we already have from this great game.

Actually, what I would like to see them do is bringing a campaign game based on a hex-map. I have made something like that for our Belgian Testgroup and they are realy enjoying this. I just took some hex-maps from the columbia range, combined with some blocks from a Napoleon game. It seems to work and gives nice battles with smaler defence forces defending bridges against large armies and so on...great fun.

Hi all,

I have just adde the first (named) Commander to our site:

The French Corps Commander Charles Reille.

He is an infantry commander that lead the French II Corps at the battles of Quattre Bras and Waterloo.

Also, he took part in the actions in Spain and Portugal.

We have made him a level 1 infantry commander with a number of special abilities that boost the use of infantry. At 25 PV he is still an affordable commander - even for smaller armies.

Leaders like Napoleon; Blucher, Wellington etc...as well as generals like Davout, Barclay de Tolly etc...will also follow (they just take some time extra to properly playtest).

Hi Silverwings
your napoleonic version it's such a great job that I was wondering if you plan to make some pdf sort of thing to put everything together in one single handy format. Do you have some scenarios available? After viewing the movie Waterloo, my girlfriend struggle to be Wellington just to play that battle and act the line "My plan? To beat the french!" Rolling Eyes

Keep up with the good work!

Hi Pantao,

As a matter of fact, I have just made one. It can now be send to any who send a mail to tom_haesendonckx@hotmail.com.

All rules are in there including rules for British, Prussian, Austrian armies. Pay attention though: except for the published cards on our site, they are in playtest yet for balancing.

You will find in the pdf a lot of leaders already (like Napoleon) but they are also yet in playtest. They seem to work fine though.

Just send me a mail at my mailadres mentioned above and you will get the pdf. The file is 5 MB though, covering some 56 pages.

I also have 5 seperate smaller files, that are less large, allowing for people with slower connections are smaller mailboxes. Just let me know wich version you want and I'll send it.

Best regards,
