More Custom Planes Sun, 06 January 2008 23:39
I completed painting a couple more planes from Game Trade Magazine, and thought I'd post them here since the contest gallery is closed. These did not quite get done in time, but no big deal as I think they are not among my best.

First, an RAF Spitfire in desert camo...

Second, one of my repeats, a P40 in Russian colors. I was inspired by Whiterook's contest entry, and an article in a recent Smithsonian Air & Space magazine on the restoration of a pair of P40s that had been rotting in Russia since WWII. There is a link to some of the info here: http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/sheppard/p40r ecovery/index.htm

Wow, nice job eldurand, and thanks for the link to the Russian P-40's (and it was nice mine inspired you to paint a version...very cool!)
Smile

Boy, you hit the Jackpot on snagging so may different versions in GTM. I had to go WAY out of my way to even get the two I managed to get my hands on, and when I openned them, I couldn't believe I got the same plane! Worked out good, though. It's nice having another Russian plane in the arsenal, to supplement the Air Packs'; and I really wanted to do a Flying Tiger, so the second gave me the chance to do the Russian. Plus, I wanted one in Winter Camo for that cool Winter board and scenarios to create! I'm looking longingly at your Corsair find, though....I would have loved to do a Pappy Boyington version!

Actually I did get several repeats, but I managed to trade with other members of the forum here (you know who you are! Wink ) to increase my assortment.
