I have been playing M44 for quite a while now and making my own scenerios but I was surprised at how limited the infantry, tank, and artillery units are so I decided to mix and match them to create new ones!
I'm not sure if anyone else has tried to do this(I heard about MG42 units), but here are some examples:
The Mortar unit contains 1 infantry figure and 1 artillery figure. It moves 1 hex or attacks, when ordered. It attacks in 2,2,1,1 and is not affected by line of sight and terrain restrictions. If the artillery figure is killed, it turns into an infantry unit. While if the infantry figure is killed, it remains as a artillery special force unit. A medal is awarded for its destruction.
The Anti-tank gun unit contains 1 infantry figure and 1 artillery figure. It moves 1 hex or attacks, when ordered. It attacks in 3,3,2,2 and is affected by line of sight and terrain restrictions. If the artillery figure is killed, it turns into an infantry unit. While if the infantry figure is killed, it remains as a artillery special force unit. A medal is awarded for its destruction.
The Mechanized Infantry unit contains 2 infantry figures and 1 tank figure. It moves up to 3 hexes and may attack, when ordered. It attacks in 3,2,1 and is affected by line of sight and terrain restrictions. If the tank figure is killed, it turns into an infantry unit. While if the infantry figures are killed, it... (still trying to figure this part out )
These are just a few examples and a lot more could be created but does anyone have any suggestions or comments???

Memoir 44 is such an abstract game ( nothing wrong with that, though!)that e.g. infantry units might already represent incorporated AT guns (How else can they effectively score hits against tanks that are three hexes away? ). Heck, some scenarios cover such vast stretches of territory that it might even be argued they have their own air-support which allows them to attack a unit that's possibly 200 km or so away in the first place...I could go on. I'm not saying not a lot more COULD be done, but on the other hand it's not always necessary...
Also the regular special infantry units can move two and still attack. Taken the level of abstractness of the game, I feel this represents Mechanised infantry fairly well!
