Campaign bag arrives in too small box Thu, 10 July 2008 06:54
My campaign bag arrived today here in the US from DoW and while the bag is fine and the breakthrough board was not damaged, it was packed in a too small box and the cardboard wrapper for the bag was just shoved into the box and crushed. That is NOT the kind of quality I have come to expect from DoW. In one sense it isn't the end of the world, because I will probably just thrown it out. It is just that when you open a new game you expect it to be properly package. I am alone with the problem?

Also, should there be any new rules/directions/scenarios for the breakthrough board?

Sorry to hear that the bag was packed poorly. That stinks. Sad

My understanding about the Breakthrough Map is that there are no new rules needed. The big difference is that the map is a lot bigger, allowing you to get in behind the enemy or pull up reinforcements from the back. It'll take a bit longer to play and maybe let you move troops around more than a normal battle.

So have fun with the map and enjoy the bag.

Got mine today and ditto on the packaging. The cardboard sleeve was smushed into the box. No damage to the bag itself as its flexible, but the Breakthrough board was a bit curled. You'd think with all the planning and time they took, they'd get a box the thing would fit in to ship it.

A quibble, but a valid point.

I did load up the bag and it works very well.

I see your point about the breakthrough map. It really just gives you the opportunity to do battles where the contest is more one of delay and depth. I thought there would be more than one scenario.

I'm glad to hear the bag works!

I'm not sure what DoW has planned for the Breakthrough map, but I would guess we'll eventually see other scenarios for it. Some of us are looking forward to the scenario that Brummbar has been working on; Breakthrough at Seelow Heights (not one of the three he just released). At this point we can't even use the Scenario Editor to make them though, so we'll just have to wait.

Agreed, the packaging is weak. Why did you guys cram it in a box that was too small? This is the first time I have had buyers remorse with a DoW product,it works fine and I am excited about the map; however it does not seem to be worth the price. That being said, I am still looking forward to the British expansion, when is that coming?

I've not yet seen the bag....not sure it's something I'd pay a lot of money for, because just about anything it probably can do, I can probably pick up at a craft store for half the price. Is it just to cram all the games in? I will confess that I haven't researched what it does.

The map though...that intrigues me! Too bad you can't just get the map and forgo the bag...or can you? Regardless, I am concerned to hear that the bag is being shipped in a manner that doesn't seen to have had much forethought.

Hey, guys, here's my take on the shipping box for the bag. It's not that big of a deal. I was a little disturbed by the damage at first, myself. But once I crammed all of my stuff into the bag, it struck me that I'm never going to need the cardboard sleeve again. As for the Breakthrough map (which rocks by the way!), the wrinkles in it because it was folded bother me more than the slight curve the small shipping box created, but I can fix these issues.

That said, I'm happy with my purchase, and besides, my son thinks it's cool.

rasmussen81, we were channeling energies in your direction when we played on the new map. Are you to blame for my poor die rolling? Very Happy

Whiterook, good to hear from you!

While playing in the WBC Mem 44 tournament, I only saw two carrying bags total. There were 62 players w/ approximately half of them bringing their games. That means out of about 32 gamers, only 2 bought the bag. I do not know if this bodes well for that release.
