Thanks for Publishing A Great Game Thu, 15 April 2004 06:06
Ticket to Ride is my first Days of Wonder purchase. I just got done playing my first game of T2R and was very please. It provided a lot fun with surprising strategy. Scratched my head more than once trying to decide just what to do on a turn. And best of all, it truly is a family game. Players for the game ranged from my 12 year old niece to my 75 year old mom. Everything about the game works. Although my Dad did point out that Duluth on the map is more like where St. Paul should be. He still won, even after being confused about the gray tracks (and Duluth) for most of the game. If all the Days of Wonder games are up to T2R’s standards you've got a life-long customer.

Thanks for your compliments, we try hard to make great family games and are pleased you liked it!

And our apologies for Duluth, the pb being that Minneapolis/St-Paul would be too long on a destination ticket (and no, we don't even want to contemplate putting one w/o the other Laughing ), and that moving Duluth to its correct position is difficult because of the fixed length constraints of the train tracks Confused

best,
eric

Thanks for the insight on the Duluth placement; I’ll let my Dad know to clear up his confusion… not that he really needs it, he won again tonight! We may not be able to get him to play anything else if this keeps up Very Happy !

I must say that I am looking forward to playing this. I just received my copy and it looks great!

However, I have to wonder at some of the laborious wording used in the manual to describe simple concepts.

For example, “The player may draw 2 Train Car cards. He may take any one of the face-up cards or he may draw the top card from the deck (this is a blind draw). If he draws a face up card, he immediately turns a replacement card face-up from the deck. He then draws his second card, either from the face up cards or from the top of the deck. (See Train Car Cards for special rules for Locomotive cards)” . . . “If a Locomotive card is one of the five face-up cards, the player who draws it may only draw one card, instead of two. If, after having drawn one card the replacement card is a locomotive, the player cannot take it. If at any time, three of the five face-up cards are Locomotives, all five cards are immediately discarded and five new ones are turned face-up to replace them.”

Could have been: “The player may draw 2 Train Car cards. Drawn cards consist of taking any combination of face-up cards and/or blindly drawing the top card from the deck. Immediately upon drawing a face-up card, a replacement card must be turned over from the deck. Face-up Locomotive cards are special, and count as two normal card draws: after drawing a regular Train Car card, a face-up Locomotive may not be taken as the second draw. If at any time three of the five face-up cards are Locomotives, all five cards must be immediately discarded with five new ones turned face-up to replace them.”

Ah well! Smile

If, however, a player receives a Locomotive as the result of a blind draw for his or her second card, this card may be kept. I take exeception to what Sunfox says about getting a loc on the a blind draw for your first card. The way I read the rules is that the player is still entitled to a second card. Can someone please confirm this? Thanks.

yes, receiving a locomotive in a blind draw does _Not_ prevent you from drawing a second card. It is _only_ when you draw a locomotive face up that you cannot draw a second card.

All of their games are, sir.
I have
T2R
Queen's Necklace
Fist of Dragonstones
Memoir '44
Pirate's Cove
and am in search for Mystery at the Abbey.

Pirate's Cove was a PAIN to find, but all in all these DoW games ROCK...well made, fun, strategic to a good point, and so beautiful on the eyes!

Love them all

I agree. T2R is simply unbelievable. You can really put brilliant efforts into this game. Have played my dad twice, won twice, and am only 6.
