Funny you should mention bridge. There are quite a few bridge players around, including myself Thumbs Up , but, perhaps more interestingly, also most of the (Austrian) team which won the Nation's Cup (a big team competition played on the US map from roughly September till the end of November each year) in 2007 and lost the final in 2008, so one might argue that TTR and Bridge go together well Cool

hmm that's kinda a provocation Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

So... when a match chess versus bridge??

Just fix a date and n players per team (let n be a number between 5 and 10).

For the chess team:
daedin, pegaso, aralai, deep_blue?, kolmogorov?

Hi Pere,

I played chess in my early years but I still like the game.

So I am interested in the challenge, but tell me a little bit more of the modus of it.

Peg,

I play chess and I'd be delighted to take up the gauntlet. Unfortunately, DOW persists in unfulfilling its many promises. And so I am still staying a guest.

Anyway. As we all know, Chess and Bridge are Olympic sports. If you need ways to discriminate real TTR intelligence, we could also use this list of recognized sports:

http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/recognized/index_uk.asp

Any pool players, bowlers, or tug-of-warriors out there ?

hmmm, very difficult, I am not a good player, but I could play in the chess or in the bridge team - maybe I have to play against myself... what a dilemma, sniff... Sad

Hi,

My idea is schedule one date (maybe sunday europe-afternoon) and play every team member one game against one member of the other team.

In a week or so we should be able to know the teams members and then start to talk about dates!

Btw:
I updated the tickipedia with daedin&mine fide rankings (aralai has not international ranking but his level is about 2000)

I have played both Chess and Bridge to some extent. My bridge skills are still developing, where as my chess skills are diminishing. I used to play chess on yahoo all of the time and got my ELO to 1600+, maybe even 1700+ at one point (which, depending on the site, could be on the high side or the low side), but I am nowhere near that now. Bridge is quite an interesting game though, just don't have many people around me who play.

In response to kolmo, I played volleyball (even though not on the list) in college (thus my name), but I was also on the college bowling team. Not the best bowler in the world either, but I have bowled a 299. Still haven't reached the 300 mark. I have always liked tug-a-war, but by no means am I good. Pool is a great game, but the good pool players are so far above the rest of us, it is scary.

As for the list on your link, I golf and waterski quite frequently in the summer. As for life saving, I was a life guard for 3 years once, and now I try to save lives for a living Cool
