Congratulations and a proposal Sat, 28 February 2009 20:47
First off, congratulations to the winners (and seconds) of the eight divisions

Shono (Qorlas)
foudecoasters (Baron_)
lucullupus (dizz)
RMarkes (rufuz)
U 31 (Pammes)
pegaso (drake)
MiguelMarques ()
Deveric (Schwen)

While it was a nice start, i think that some improvements can be made in our league. In the lower levels, things are spiced up because of the possibility of advancement/relegation. But in the top division, only relegation is possible, and while winning is nice, it seems as if more needs to be done, hence my proposal.

Two A divisions, each with only 6 individuals. They have 6 weeks to complete a round robin, followed by a playoff for overall first. First place from each division plays second place from the other division, and winners meet in the finals. The playoffs will add spice, because of their single elimination character. You may rack up points in the round robin, but one bad string, and you could be out. Bottom two from each are relegated, replaced by the top two from B and the top from the pair of C's (this would need a more aggressive semi-pyramid than is currently in place). This would make doing well in the A division more meaningful, and mediocre play is more likely to send you to B or C for a season. Those in B and C would realize that with good play, next season they could be the overall champion.

I mentioned this possibility to wildfire and Colo at the end of this past season, and while they found it intriguing, we all agreed we should let some discussion take place, and make sure we had a good system. Please, take some time to think whether this would improve the League, and whether there are changes you would suggest. It will cause a further shakeup in the divisions, but hopefully this will help in folding back those who left for a season because of GOF or the Fed Cup.

I like this proposal and think it should be applied to all divisions grouped in twos since many of us cannot do all the seasons all year around.

So why not A & B, with the play-off format suggested, then also same for C & D, E & F, G & H?

Sure, the format would be interesting

The question is: Do want a League (as they play it in all kinds of sports) or are we looking for interesting events in general?

If we want a League, stick to what we have at the moment.
I know of no sport where 'League' involves knockouts.
I know of no sport where the top devision(s) has(have) more than 1 group (if there are pyramids they start at lower levels but not at A and B).
I don't think the football players in the top devisions of their leagues are bored because there's nothing to fight for but winning ...
But maybe TTR is different, so let's hear from the devision A players how they feel.

I would certainly enjoy playing this new tournament, I just wouldn't call it 'League' any more.

of course you could also name 100 leagues that dont have playoffs Wink

i like the league status. the more stable guy wins and that's all.
the purpose of this League thing was a diff thing. for groups and knocks out and all that we have NC, SPWC, FED, etc.

i like the way it is.
