The most fun I've had with M44 to date is playing Operation Market Garden with two players.
So, a resounding YES.

I must be doing something wrong when I play solo, cause I always end up losing!

Do you need to use the overlord card decks or can you just use the regular cards dividing the board up in 3 sections rather than 6? (I've never played Overlord, but this scenario really seems worthwhile!...)

It's playable with a single deck, you'll just find yourself reshuffling a lot.
You don't want to divide the board into 3 section. Overlord is balanced for six and should be played that way, especially with a scenario like this one.

I beat my son on the MarketGarden map tonight. I have played the Allies twice. He really kicked my backside the first time, XXX Corp never got close to Eindhoven and his Tiger put tracks on the poor British airborne. This time it was much closer, 13 to 11. He came close to winning and I had to risk many troops to contest the two bridges I didn't have to keep 'em out of his hands.
The game came down to one die, he had a single tank in woods and I was able to get an infantry unit close enough to roll ONE die. I need one last medal to win. Drop'd it in the dice tower and it seemed to take an hour to come back out, and when it did it came up "tank". VICTORY! He's been on a winning streak lately.....
