The 24-hours-nonstop-ttr-tournament Mon, 13 July 2009 21:58
Dear ttr-Community,

four weird ttr-players who have a lousy, lame life are searching for their ultimate new adventure. So we are starting the next big thing:

the superduper
24-HOURS-NONSTOP-TTR-TOURNAMENT .

Starting time: Saturday, 25th, 10:00 CET
Ending time: Sunday, 26th, 10:00 CET

The crazy gang: dea1, U32, Angel6 and your favorite ttr-player, Hecki Laughing
Two girls, two boys, two austrians, two germans. Let's take a look who's kicking the other one's caboose.

Tournament directors:
the mean girl and the good guy (dea1, Hecki) Rolling Eyes

The rules:

We are playing USA singles rated and open, random start. You are not allowed to give up. You are not allowed to sleep or stop playing unless you have a certificate from your hospital. Fans, visitors and witnesses are welcome.

First round (50 games):
U32 vs. Angel6 / dea1 vs. Hecki

Second round (50 games):
U32 vs. dea1 / Angel6 vs. Hecki

Third round (50 games):
U32 vs. Hecki / dea1 vs. Angel6

These will take about 20 hours, i think. We will update our results in the forum, of course. In the fourth and last round we will play multi till death do us part. In the meantime we will of course skype with each other - just to make clear that our opponents are still alive.

Stay tuned!

Hecki

Nice event, have fun.

I know Bassie did a 24hours non stop (in 2P USA, what was the quantity of games? a bit more than 100 if I remember right). I didn't know the tprail score 159 games: congratulations!

Hey folks,

i know that there is one more player (Karin1961) intrested in this event. If we would find 4 more players we could start a 2nd group. So you could send me a pm (or a pm to Karin) if you wanna take part. The time next weekend is fix and you should be a well known player. No suspious cheaters please.

The tournament directors (dea1, Hecki) will decide.

Have a nice weekend,
Hecki

Don't know much about tprail's marathon either, but I followed Bassie (that was just when I started to play TTR and I was very impressed), so I can draw comparisons here.

Yes, quantity was 100.
The difference is that Bassie didn't prearrange games (besides agreeing in the lobby 'OK, I'll play you next') but simply opened a game and took all comers (respect Thumbs Up ).
So he spent some time waiting for an opponent to join the game and he had opponents with different playing speed.
(I know the difference: played 50 games against Hecki in about the same time that was needed for 25 against Sebbo - and Sebbo is not extremely slow, it can be much worse ...)
So it's clear that the number of games we achieve cannot be compared to Bassie's event.

What about the 'toughness factor'?
Difficult to compare, too.
Harder for Bassie:
He (probably Rolling Eyes ) got tired, his opponents did not.
Playing opponents of alternating skill levels (and a lot of players where you don't know, how good they really are) is certainly difficult.
Our challenge:
We have the tournament atmosphere, the ultimate desire to win against a certain opponent (guys, do you hear me?) Twisted Evil , a ranking in the end.
As I'm more focused on match wins than on ELO that's what I hope will keep me awake Rolling Eyes

The very important difference is ...
... Bassie already proved that he can do it - we aren't there yet ...

My "marathon" was not announced in advance, but was played in Feb 2006 (gee has it been that long??). The information about this (and Bassie's marathon) can be found by looking at the "TTR Marathon thread" in the forum archives.

Maybe someone can post detailed multi statistics.

We played multi about 7 1/2 hours Smile , and the first 6 hours I managed to maintain a ranking of 1730/1740. Therby, I was very lucky that only Hecki made blocking attempts against me, nobody else helped him Wink

In the last 1 1/2 hours I felt good but played bad, losing ~30 points.

I felt that dea was the best in multi by far, followed by Hecki and me by long distance...
