The announcement did say that you can get it from "participating retail stores"...so you might want to look around for one of those.

If I might had a retail store around which sells Memoir '44! But there is no such store... except an online store, from where I've got every expansion...

Sounds like you should check with them and see if they'll have the promotional campaign.

Not sure why the DOW Euro shop doesn't ship to Romania since they are part of the European Union?
The online shops I use in the UK ship to all European Union States, so you could try one of them? Although they don't have Sword of Stalingrad in stock yet (which is why I ordered direct from DOW), they say they will be getting it when it is available.

Eric and DoW has already explained (more than once) why they don't ship to some Eastern European countries. It has to do with the shipping company they use and the fees that nemesszili mentioned. Good luck getting a copy of the booklet, nemesszili. I hope you find a place that will ship it to you...or a player who will get it for you and ship it over.

That would be a great relief, if someone would make an order of one copy of Swords of Stalingrad (and the Campaign Bag if possible), then I would pay for it and as well for transportation...
I guess I have no other option... not even Hedgerow Hell is available here!

This community is so helpful, I bet you could find someone who would do that for you. Especially if you sent them the payment first so they didn't have to spend any of their own money. Good luck.

While not fully agreeing with you, Slotrace, you could see that this a trick like with the Breakthrough Map. Even if its a trick, no one will make this campaign revealed. Too bad.

Buy one and get one for free is not for free in my world!
Is DoW in some kind of financial trouble and want our money so bad, that they have to offer us this for free before we buy something from them?
This should have been for free in the official scenarios instead!
I have paid enough money already on this game!
Sorry jdrommel, but I think I can do without it!
|
René,
You don't have to order any of our games online if you don't want to. Instead you could just visit your regular Memoir '44 retailer, who will receive free copies of the expansion from their distributor as well.
The fact that this expansion is free does NOT mean that we can ship it to anyone who wants it free of charge directly from our web site however; mailing and handling fees for doing this worldwide would be prohibitive.
best,
Eric @ DoW

So that's why it was instead included in a "package" of an expansion + the campaign, so fees and transportation would be charged only on the expansion itself.
On the other hand, it may get DoW bankrupt, if they would transport it separately and entirely free!
So I see... by the way, Romania should be included in the EU Store.

We didn't do it just as an Online supplement because we wanted to go the extra step and make a nice print out in time for Christmas, as a way to show our appreciation (though I guess in some instances at least it wasn't perceived that way )
And because it gave us something physical to offer to the retailers who support our games.
As for the rest, yes, your local game shop in Copenhagen should have some (though I would wait a bit for it to arrive... probably around the same time Sword of Stalingrad shows up there).
best,
eric

And thanks a lot for that, I really appreciate this and can't tell you how much more I like it than an Online supplement only..
For my part I think this is just great and I really don't mind that I have to buy something, if I want to get it online (no retail store around here), have to buy Battle Map No 3 anyway

The Winter 2007 Scenario Baraque de Fraiture (Parker's Crossroads) was a free Christmas gift from DoW to the community, too. And later DoW released it in the military archives, so all those who failed to receive a physical copy could play the scenario. A great thing, cause 2007 I did not know Memoir and so I do not own this card, but I can play it.
Are there any plans to do the same with this campaign? I guess a lot of people would be happy to see this as a online easter gift next year...

Me too. I can't wait for Christmas when I'll be "allowed" to open these packages and play them! I've booked the dinning table to be cleared immediately after lunch on 25 December!
I think 99.9% of Forum members really appreciate this gesture from DoW - Thank you, Merci, Danke sehr!

I think this is a smart move by DOW.
For every product, there are some customers who will buy it eagerly at any reasonable price ... and many people who would never buy it at any price at all ... and many people in between, who might consider buying it.
The business purpose of free gifts like this, and discount coupons, and store "sales" is to attract enough of those in-between customers, so that it will be more profitable. The wrong incentive actually can be very costly for a company. There is a very fine art to creating the right incentive to maximize profits.
This bonus campaign is a nice gesture for us in the active, loyal Memoir community (Thank you, Eric!), but its bigger purpose may be to get retailers to feature Memoir more prominently and get many more customers. And I think most of us would agree that anything that gets more people to play Memoir is a good thing.
Sam
PS - In the same way, I also think Sword of Stalingrad is a brilliant move. Compare it to Hedgerow Hell or Tigers in the Snow -- two other expansions with double-sided Overlord maps. HH and TTS offer just a few extra plastic figures. SOS has a whole new deck of cards, new urban rules, and two regular-sized scenarios, plus some other goodies. I thought those were such powerful motivators that I ordered SOS immediately.

If its purpose is to encourage people to buy more sets and expansions, then we probably should assume that it won't be posted, at least for a while.

Currently the DoW Shop only shows an item ' - English' in addition to what I put in my basket. I suspect this is Vercors. Did someone steal the title of the item?

Thanks DoW and jdrommel for creating another (probably I hope ) fantastic Campaign. Indeed most of you guys already mentioned the arguments etc. for releasing it.
However, if I am not able to get it (when you've stopped printing it...) I would indeed have it as PDF if possible. That way, anyone could print it themselves and everyone would have the fun of the Vercors Campaign....
Thanks again!

Fair enough, but I still fail to see why you just didn't put it in the download section. You would have saved money - and a rainforest - by not having to print it on paper.

Paper is not made from trees that grows in rain forests.
- and if you're not going to print the map - why all the fuss?
