Fair enough, but I still fail to see why you just didn't put it in the download section. You would have saved money - and a rainforest Razz - by not having to print it on paper.

Paper is not made from trees that grows in rain forests.
- and if you're not going to print the map - why all the fuss?

Fully agree. Paper locks in carbon. I fear running computers to download files only costs electricity, and carbon.
DoW, I really appreciate the gesture. Sorry that some cannot appreciate the free gift you are giving. That's FREEE and GIFT. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, the chances are it is a duck....

Thunder,
Loved your rolling commentary on Board Game Geek - Laughing Laughing

Quote:

In the Future I will be receiving a package in the mail:

You got a package in the mail today my Sexy Husband?

It looks about the size of the new expansion from DoW called "Sword of Stalingrad" my Lovely Wife. I can't wait to open it.

That's sounds interesting, why don't you open it now Love of my Life while I finish cooking your dinner?

I will sit at the table and excitedly open the package like a child on Xmas. Its a great feeling opening up a new game package with all the rules, components and other bits that will take me to another time, another era. Its very exciting. Imagine the possibilities.

Look Honey! It IS the brand new Overload expansion "Sword of Stalingrad"! Wow, I can hardly wait to get this on the table with my friends.

Hey wait a min, what's this? There is something else in the box that I didn't order....The Vercors Campaign?!?! What the....?!?! I did'nt order this!! What kind of crap is DoW trying to pull here?!?! They better not have charged me for this!!

Dearest, please calm down surely it can't be that bad. If you did'nt order it, I am sure it was a mistake and they will take it back. Why don't you just contact them and ask.

Good idea My Little basket of Lavendar & Roses. I will call them up right now. This just smells like some kind of evil plan, there is nefariousness going on...I just know it.

Picking up the phone I will call Days of Wonder customer service.

Hello, Days of Wonder Customer Service, How can I help you today?

My name is Brent and I want to talk to Eric.

Eric is busy right now, perhaps there is something I can help you with?

I doubt it but perhaps... Look, I ordered the "Sword of Stalingrad" map and when I opened the package there was another item in the package titled "The Vercors Campaign". I did not order this item, I am not going to pay extra for this item.

Sir, you don't have to pay for "The Vercors Campaign", we included it for free as a bonus. We have also distributed the Campaign to many of the retailers so anybody who orders from them will also be able to get a copy.

Now wait just one darn minute. This sounds like some fishy shenanagains. I really think its best if I talk directly to Eric about this.

Sir, there is nothing fishy about this, you will not be charged and you are free to use the campaign as you like....

Stop! You just used the word "free" again. I demand to talk with Eric right now. The usage of the word "free" has to stop immediately. Seriously.

One moment please Sir. I will see if he is available.

Hello Sir, he just happens to have a few rare spare moments and would be happy to talk to you. Just one moment and I will transfer you...

Hello Brent, this is Eric. What can I do for you?

Hello Eric, I received my "Sword of Stalingrad" map and in the package there was this other item "The Vercors Campaign"....and...

Yes, that is a new campaign we thought you fans might like so we printed it up and are adding it to other Mem'44 orders from our store and sending it out to other retailers who carry our products for free distribution.

STOP right there mister! You just said for "free". What do you mean for "free"?

Well...I mean you don't have to pay for it to get it. We are distributing it around at our own cost without charging or asking for any money for it. That's what I mean by "free".

That is not free. I have to buy something to get it, how can you call that "free"?

How about you think about it like a "bonus"? Pretend I was using the word "free" in a conversational fashion.

Uhh...ok...But I still don't like it. It sounds like a sinister marketing ploy. It just sounds....

Dinner is ready my Fondest Love...

Gotta Go Eric, Love your games, bye.

Dinner was great, Sword of Stalingrad was great, The Vercors Campaign was great. Life goes on...Whats next?

Peace

I can't help wonder what she cooked for dinner.

Care to enlighten us, Thunder?

Have there been any sightings of this campaign yet? I called my FLGS and was disappointed to hear that they didn't even know what I was talking about.

The Vercors Campaign won't appear in stores before Sword of Stalingrad arrives, I think. So it's not too surprising your store may not have heard about it yet (though it they call their rep at Alliance, they should be able to get some info already).

Any plans to create campaign sheets for this campaign? Or are they posted somewhere and they've just eluded me?

The Campaign Sheets are the actual sheets listing the games. Just photocopy them if you need a sheet.

Thanks for the feedback though I'm referring to the sheets available for download from the Campaign Book page that Rasmussen created. I like using them- you get a very pretty and detailed history of each of your battles that way (as opposed to just jotting down numbers and using the page you refer to to add the grand totals together). Not essential to have, but I like having the history to rub in my brother's face when I clobber him. Very Happy

AAAUUGH!! I didn't know about this. I pre-ordered SoS through DoW as soon as it announced, but when it came time to ship my PayPal payment wouldn't go through. Seemed a hassle to get it straightened out, so I just went and bought it through an online retailer ... if I had known I was missing out on a campaign, I'd have gotten PayPal sorted and kept my order with DoW!

AUUUGHH!!!

Yes and yes. It's a fun little campaign with lots of chances to practice with the French Resistance. Sorry it didn't work out for you to get a copy of it.

I realized a new deck of command cards was very affordable and still qualified me for the campaign. Wouldn't be so bad to have a second deck, so I went ahead and placed an order ... which means hopefully I'll be playing the campaign soon. Smile

And lest my initial disappointment be taken wrong, I think this bonus was an AWESOME thing for Days of Wonder to do and is an example of the kind of thing that has built up my loyalty with them. (I only post to the M44 forum, but my family and I play a number of DoW games.)
