Thank you, Days Of Wonder!

To everyone at Days Of Wonder!
After the cease and desist actions taken by another large gaming company against internet sites recently, I just want to say a big thank you for your great customer support!
I think it is great that you allow FAQ's, player aids, Ticket To Ride maps and other great resources to be made and shared on the internet and it speaks volumes about how you value your customers. I hope you never decide to change this behaviour.
The various Memoir'44 player aids made by your customers have been a great help to me and my friends when playing this great game!
Regards

I too have only praise for the quality of customer service at DOW. On the very rare occasion that I had game pieces missing a simple email prompted a vey quick response and the pieces were duly sent to me. Excellent service, well done DOW

Don't be naive. DoW will also have to defend their IP.
GW is still alowing several files created by people who have ASKED (and received) PERMISSION.

I am not being naive, I know they have to defend their IP, and I know they do, but they still allow user-made scenarios, player aids, maps for TTR and other stuff.
They have also shown great customer support when I have had problems with the online store.
This is what I am thanking them for and the recent c&d action by GW just made me want to post it and express my thanks.

Games Workshop has asked people who illegally have used copyrighted material to remove it from their sites.
From my understanding Days of Wonder will not tolerate high quality scans of their (and others) copyrighted works either. From the Small World forum:
| Eric wrote: | Copyright concerns: If we provide high quality templates, this will undoubtedly encourage people to "lift" very nice fantasy graphics from a variety of sources (D&D, fantasy books, etc...) to use to illustrate their banners, badges and tokens, without necessarily bothering to ask the authors or copyright holders of said illustrations for the authorization. While it is something (scanning a graphic) that is probably OK for personal use, it is not something that we want to encourage or condone for widespread distribution (even free widespread distribution).

So I am pretty convinced DoW would also send out 'Cease and Desist' letters if necessary.

I think you are misinterpreting what DoW is saying here though Mik. They are protecting themselves from being sued for copyright infringement, ie. if someone uses unauthorized graphics and DoW printed them unknowingly, DoW would be sued. At least, that's what I get from the statement posted.
That being said, yes, DoW would protect their intellectual property (and should!) but I have found them to be generous (and smart) in their allowances. Permission does need to be asked, that's all it takes.
Both Jesse and I and others have produced fan products for DoW with their permission and everyone is happy for it!

And I know of a couple of fan sites for GW products that is also running succesfully - with permission from GW.
It is quite simple really: don't use the IP of others unless you have received permission - or be at least prepared to remove the work again, if the owners ask you to.
