FAQ version 1.1
|

Hi friends,
I'm pleased to announce that version 1.1 of the FAQ is now available. It has been updated with a few new questions and several small editing errors have been corrected.
A more significant addition to the document is the presence of titles above every summary card. On Sam's suggestion, I added the titles to help users know which card they are looking at. My original idea was that the cards would be recognizable by themselves, but the size of the cards and the quality of the images prevented that from being effective.
Thank you to everyone who helped me look over the FAQ for mistakes and for ways to improve the usefulness of this resource. Enjoy!
Jesse Rasmussen

Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping that each update will improve the usefulness of this file, and I think this version does just that.
About the Memoir '44 History Club...yes we're still playing Pacific scenarios but I've been terrible about updating the blog site. Sorry about that. With Christmas break coming up I should have some free time and I'll post some entries looking back at how the club went. Sorry for the delays with that!

Everything over at the FAQ site is fine. DoW did it right the first time, but I had failed to clear my Cache so I was still looking at the previous version. Sorry for any confusion!

It looks great!
Thank you, Jesse, for all the work you put into this! It's a real public service for everybody who plays the game.
Folks: One other handy, new feature that he didn't mention: There's a little icon next to entries that have changed since the previous version, so they're easy to spot.

That's right! Look for the small green star to the left of the text. It indicates that the rule was either edited or is brand new.
Thanks for the reminder, Sam. (It was his idea)

I would have liked it just as much if somebody else had suggested it first.

Thanks!
Just 1 problem: the texts for the Hedgerows, Armored Trains, Tigers, and Air Recon FAQs print out very lightly or not at all.
Other than that it's great!

That's strange! Anyone know why it would do that? When you look on the PDF for those questions are they light as well?
I don't know enough about computers or printers to know if those sections were somehow corrupted along the way or something. Anyone with more knowledge want to help out here?

On the screen, Hedgerows doesn't have any text, and the others are all very light gray.

That's very strange! I don't know why it would be doing that because when I look at the original PDF file, everything is the same as when I created it...black and clear. Anyone know what might be going wrong?
You might try downloading the individual sections to see if those files don't have the problem, or if you were printing the individual sections, you might try the Full Document. It's just a thought.

Good thinking, Sam. I hadn't thought about the version being the possible problem. I know that when I look at the downloaded files using Adobe Reader 9 (version 9.1.3) or the program Preview (version 4.2) both on a Mac, I can see everything in the PDF just fine.
Good luck!

Ubuntu 9.10, Gnome Document Viewer shows it fine. But acroread-8.1.2 shows blank paragraphs. I can select them, but I can't see any text. First is the first faq on page 6 (Hedgerows).

Look at the black lines going to the card, they show white as well. Is this a changed FAQ and you used some sort of change management function? Just guessing here...
Oliver.

l am using the latest PDF ver 9.2.0 on Windows XP SP3. My download printed ok. When l viewed the PDF on screen at fit page some had no test while some others had greyed out text, when l viewed it at a larger size Hedgerows text only appeared when l increased the PDF size to 150%.
l hope this is of some help.

So it looks like the program has something to do with whether you can see the full document or not. I'm not sure why that would be.

Thanks for the guesses, Oliver. Obviously I changed some things in the document but I created the PDF the same way as every other time. And I'm afraid I don't know what the management function is, so if I changed that it wasn't intentional!
