World at War on DVD - affordable!

You guys are probably already aware of this, but I've only just noticed 32 hours (including extras) of the classic 1970s World at War series has been marked down from £99 to less than £30 on Amazon in the UK. Maybe similar in the US? I think it's about £30 in Virgin stores in the UK too.
I've always wanted this series but the price has been prohibitive. The reason it will always be an important history is the amount of eye-witness interviews from combatants on all sides. Now my cat has kindly bought me a lovely Christmas present

That is an absolute bargain.
I have this as a boxed set that I bought in a previous sale over a year ago for about £60 or £70. I bought it because I remember watching it as a kid every Sunday afternoon, for what seemed like my whole life!
Worth every penny. It is the definitive history of WW II, mainly, as you say, because of the eye witness accounts, from all sides. I wouldn't think there are many of the people interviewed in the series still alive.
If anyone hasn't got this, I would recommend you snap it up instantly.

Sounds like something I need...especially if it's something I could use for teaching history to my Memoir '44 History Club students! There are enough World War two series out there that I want to make sure I'm looking at the right one. Could one of you fine Brits post a link to the series you're talking about?
Thanks for the help.

I know this is probably obvious....
These are PAL Region 2 dvd's.
As a Brit living in the USA, I had to buy a multi egion dvd player (cheap from ebay) to view my collection.
and yes, these were given away with tokens from the Daily Mail (iirc) a year or so ago. Tokens got you most of the set and you paid for the last few discs.
Jesse if you still want to buy a set - message me and I can get my parents back in the Uk to mail it to you etc
Regards
Mike

Thank you for the amazing offer, Mike. I looked the set up on Amazon and it looks like I found the same product here on the American Amazon site. I didn't see anywhere if it says whether it's PAL Region 2 or not. Anyone know?
I think I might just try to get it for Christmas from the US Amazon site, but I'll keep the offer in mind if this doesn't work. It looks like a good resource to have for teaching about World War II!

You're a gentleman and a scholar. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to find the information about the formatting. Thank you for pointing that out and thank you again for the kind offer of your parents' services!

Ras
The one you linked to on the US Amazon is the 30th anniversary edition, which is the same one I have.
The UK offer is for the standard boxed set which has the original 26, 1 hour, episodes only (1973).
The 30th anniversary edition also has:
8 special follow ups filmed in 1975
3 hours of previously unseen footage
A copy of the book
A copy of the BAFTA series journal
Interviews with the original production team
All in a numbered limited edition box set
Honestly, it is often described as the definitive documentary on WW II.
Watch this link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LLKv38kOrI&feature=PlayL ist&p=94B5722971E4EF68&index=0 ) of the introduction to the first episode, the first few minutes will blow your mind.
