Anybody get any games for Christmas? Sun, 27 December 2009 17:04
Did anyone get any games for Christmas? I got a set of screwdrivers with built in flashlights (so you can see what you are doing, I guess), but my best friend got Seafarers of Catan for Christmas. (call me jealous!)

I got the campaign bag from my mother-in-law, my kids gave me the extra battles boards for Tide of Iron and my wife gave me the Designers Scenarios for Tide of Iron.
So I think I'm all covered up now but have to work between Christmas and New Years evening! Sad

I got World at War: Eisenbach Gap, Pandemic and Zoobaloo.
Pandemic was an enjoyable experience and I am reading the rules for WaW:EG now. A little bit more complicated than Memoir'44.

I got Blokus and RoboRally. Both good games, though RoboRally is more my speed. Sadly I didn't get any Days of Wonder games, but considering that my wife says I already have enough games, I was pleased to get 2 (though neither were from her).

The next DoW game I want to get is "Pirates Cove"...I'm just waiting for it to be available again!

I had a very "gamey" holiday.
- Lost Cities
- Bootleggers
- Pitchcar Mini
- Wings of War - Famous Aces
- Mr Jack (and extension)
- Oltre Mare
- Duel in the Dark
- Twilight Struggle Deluxe Edition (hasn't arrived yet, though)
- An unknown package which hasn't arrived yet, which may be Sword of Stalingrad!

A very Merry Christmas indeed!

Hello,
I'm new here, I got Memoir 44 for Christmas and my sons already want all the expansion packs and have downloaded Vassel. I also got Pandemic and a new (I have a really old version) of Cosmic Encounter.

My son also got 3D monopoly which is kind of ok (well, less boring than normal monopoly!).

Did Zombies!!! go out of print recently? Everyone is suddenly out of stock of it and Amazon prices are through the roof! Maybe the Christmas rush just deleted stock temporarily.

I got Memoir '44 Very Happy

I managed to get in one game with my brother while he was over, but other than that I've not managed to get anyone else to play against me. I think I may be able to persuade one of my stepdaughters to give me a game, although when I asked them this evening the conversation went something like this:

Me: Hey girls, anyone fancy playing a game of Memoir '44 with me?
DD1: No thanks, Tim.
DD2: Which game is that?
Me: It's the one...
DD1: It's the one with the toy soldiers.
DD2: No thanks, Tim.

D'oh!

Plenty of base game copies (and the expansions) in the London games shops I visited before Christmas.

Hi all, I also got the Memoir'44 plus the Eastern Front expansion and I have had few games already against my wife and my wife's brother (first three scenarios). Most of time is still spend on checking the rules from the book but I like the game system alread. Very nice graphics but maybe the colors of the figures could be better (green/gray). Hopefully there is lots of scenarios still to be played. And I hope to see this game online...

I did not get any new games this holiday but was able to play a few scenarios with my nephews.

The younger of the two has been learning his generalship lessons as he was able to get a win playing the Red Barricades and Pegasus bridge.

Even though I don't think he is responsible enough to own the game and keep it all together without losing pieces or cards I think I'll buy him a very used copy if the opportunity arises.

Ahh... so this is where the Ladder group hangs out. Shout out to the Mem44 King Ladder Group family.

Santa was good to TubBelly. I got Pacific & Med Theaters Exp Packs, Desert/Winter Map, the Bag with Breakout map, and the Campaign Book Vol 1. My M44 collection is now complete and Overlord ready.

Now with my bag packed, I look like Sam1812 at a wargame convention.

Hope everybody has a Happy New Year.

I don't play vassal (because when I tried I had lots of problems) but I will be playing either the Vecours campaign or the Iwo Jima campaign on New Years Day! My best friend is coming over tonight and a couple of other guys and we will be playing card games. But my friend will stay so that we can have our campaign tomorrow. Last time he was here, we played one of the Russian campaigns from the CB. I won! Laughing

Hi, 50th --

In case you want to try Vassal one more time, there are two pieces of advice that seem to solve at least 80% of people's problems:

1. Make sure you create that subfolder for the extensions inside the same folder as the module. The subfolder must be named Memoir44v8_ext

2. Just save the extensions into that subfolder. Do not unzip them.

I've found it a great place to find opponents, and along the way, I've met a bunch of new friends around the world. If you do try it, and you see "Sam E." online there, that's me. Say hello!

I'm up for trying VASSAL out but at the moment I'm limited by the resolution of my laptop screen (1024 x 600), which doesn't seem to be enough to play the game properly. If I zoom out enough to make room for a hand of cards they're too small to read. and If I zoom in I can't scroll to any cards placed outside the board.

Has anyone else had success in running it on a small screen?

I got a surprise Agricola from my wife and I got lots of Memoir on my birthday (which was just 4 days before Christmas):

- all three Battle Maps
- Operation Overlord
- Pacific Theater
- Mediterranean Theater

That means I have a full set now! Smile

If I count the games the kids got there was also:

- UNO Extreme
- LEGO Ramses Pyramid (I don't know if this should count as a game)
- Wer war's?
- Bob the Builder Never Mind!
- Trivial Pursuit Family Edition

Happy new year to everyone!

Last night I saw my youngest sister and she gave me a late Christmas present. A game! She got me "Star Trek Scene it" So I did not have a gameless Christmas! Of course, I would have also liked another copy of the base M44 game! But beggars cannot be choosers. Being a Trekker, I'll take it. I probably know the answer to most of the questions! In fact, I might have problems finding someone to play it against me. (I've had that problem before on Star Trek Trivia games.

I hope to find some opponents and especially new friends for the Memoir'44 from there too. Look for "Musti" or PM/Email me. VASSAL works fine, thanks to "Keith" for the tutorial on the Pegasus Bridge there. I hope to have NOT played that Barrage since you had the Counter Attack Crying or Very Sad ...

I got Air Pack, and Campaign book. Have already managed the Battle of Normandy grand campaign (with air rules), and I think my wife was probably glad school wasn't closed with snow today, as it meant she could go back to work!

still trying to decide whether it's worth getting overlord stuff for just the two of us on the kitchen table.

OK, I might be up to giving Vassal another chance. I'll have to download the latest version and the modules. I have a faster connection now (used to have DSL). I might try either tomorrow or Friday, since I'm snowed in. I'll let you know before I get on, and someone with experience can play with me and help me. Don't know if I'll have time to do everything tomorrow (don't know why not, I'm snowed in), I need to clean this apartment. You all have talked me into it. I'll let you know when I'm ready.

My family received these (board) games on Christmas:

Bohnanza
Dominion
Witch's Brew
Lord of the Rings the Confrontation (deluxe edition)

We've played the first three so far and all are excellent games. Bohnanza and Witch's Brew are playable with no big problems by my 6 year old (probably without understanding the strategy all that well though - but she won both). She also was able to play Dominion.

But, my birthday is coming up very soon and I expect there are some DOW expansions still under the tree (I'm guessing they are the Small World expansions since my 8 year old son and I love this game).

I gave these to my brother:
Sword of Stalingrad (w/ Vercours)
Kaiser's Pirates
Small World
Battlestar Galactaca: Pegasus

He gave me:
Arkham Horror: Innsmouth

We managed to get in a couple games of Memoir (started Vercours) and one of Battlestar before I had to return home (different state). Definitely looking forward to more!

My beloved spouse got me Beatles: Rock Band. And my in-laws got me Worst Case Scenario: The Office. They also gave me Dominion for my birthday, which is close enough to count.

And the day after Christmas, a round of OL Market Garden and Sword of Stalingrad.

Plus my office wargaming buddy got himself the first two ASL Starter Kits. It's going to be an interesting 2010.

Yeah, it's often one-sided in my family when it comes to gift-giving of games. My brother's into them more than I am (especially the war games), though, so it's ok. Memoir is probably our favorite to play together, and I love Pandemic. Arkham is fun, too, but it takes so long to set up and play- love the theme, anyway.

I got Assassins Creed 2 for the Xbox. 5 minutes into it and my machine got the ring of death. So it's somewhere in Germany being fixed at the moment.

I also got COD MOD 2 but finished it after a couple of days. (By the way, COD Vietnam is out November 2010).

I can't play memoir 44 as the chap i game with lives 25 miles away and the snow is too bad to travel. So haven't played memoir for nearly 4 weeks, so am getting withdrawl symptoms. (In fact it's so bad, i am actually google-ing images of memoir 44 so i can just have a look.....).

Apart from that, my air pack should be here soon. Never used that one, so am looking forward to that.
