Why is the P-38 in white? Sun, 07 March 2010 03:31
Can anyone will me why the P-38 included in the Air Pack is white in color? Is it supposed to represent a bare metal finish? And what about the black accent on the rudders? Is it just that, accent?

Maybe it has to do with cost effective parts distribution.

Maybe it has to do with the P-38 being an airplane of mercy.

Maybe it just turned out that way.

Maybe I have no idea at all and I should go back to sleep.

I think I finally figured out how to post pics here, so this (I hope) is my P-38. $6 and twenty minutes of work can really enhance the look (and my enjoyment) of the game.

It's not perfect, but it gets the right impression across. And I like it better than the white P38 Smile

How did you get your tiles so tightly pressed together? Nice Lightning, too.

Forked-Tail Devil of Mercy? Probably not. Yes, go back to sleep.

That P-38 is flying in Holland (Op MG), that's why the tiles are so nicely put next to each other. I have no idea, why is there, since Air Rules are not in effect in that scenario. I guess it was put there only for demonstration. Smile

If you look at the first photo, there's a definite fold in the board - I would say that's a battlemap!

Not only a fold, it also has a fat red dotted line on top of a Forest hex...

The Invasion Striped P-38 was only used during the D-day landings.
The P-38 was flying in several versions, including silver, white, red or black.

Wow, didn't know that. I've only seen them in Pacific USAAF colors and bare metal finish. And black for the night fighters/pathfinders, natually.

That P38 was only in Holland for display purposes and then it went straight back in the box, ya nitpickers! I'm the one who doesn't even care for the air rules, remember?
Smile

The Pacific USAAF colors are the dark/forest green, right? I almost opted for that, but liked the classic bare metal look more.

But any of those options beats the out-of-the-box white...

I saw one time that many of the planes that participated in D-day also kept their stripes throughout the European Theater.

One was painted backwards so the enemy did not know if it was flying towards them or away from them Laughing

I painted mine too. Again, not perfect, but it's not white anymore.

So which way round are you supposed to have the stand?

One of you has it one way, the other.............the other way.

It works in many different positions -- front, back, sideways, tilted. They don't care what you do in the privacy of your own (or someone else's) home.

Looks good...any anything is better than the white they come in!

I've gotten to the point where I think I enjoy painting my M44 pieces as much as I enjoy playing the game.

Thanks oldbloodandguts. I just couldn't stand to look at the white P-38 anymore. Afterwards I put the paints away (before I paint something else and botch that up! Laughing )
