Campaign Book Supplements Tue, 16 March 2010 20:39
Hello friends,

I'm happy to announce that there are some new Campaign Book Supplements available on the Campaign Book page or in the Rules and Goodies section.

The Campaign Sheets have all been updated to include the number of reserve tokens each side starts with, a place to record the date you played each battle, and icons to record what your reserve rolls and Victory Event rolls were!

There are two new documents also available under the Campaign Book Help Sheets header. Although the files are the same size, one is 7 pages long while the other is only 2 pages.

The "Campaign Book Supplemental" document (7 pages) outlines every roll you need to make between scenarios during a campaign and explains when to roll. This document will remind players what the rolls mean but still provides the text that accompanies the different rolls.

The "Campaign Book Dice Rolls Reference" document (2 pages) outlines the dice rolls as well, but does not include the explanation text. This is a very short reference document to simply remind players what the rolls mean.

It's my hope that these files (the updated ones and the new ones) will help facilitate a more positive and streamlined Campaign experience. Cool

My pleasure. As always, if you find any mistakes let me know! Also, if you have suggestions that might make these more useful or more user-friendly, send your ideas my way. I can't promise that I'll use your suggestions, but I will definitely consider them! In fact, updating the Score Sheets was inspired by your request so keep the good ideas coming! Cool

Well, since you asked for suggestions... Rolling Eyes

In your campaign score sheet, I'd put the Victory Events Rolls to the left of the Reserve Rolls, since that's the order you're rolling them in. Easier to remember and follow that way, IMHO.

For your Supplemental, under the Reserve Roll section on page 1, your note stresses that the campaign-specific options are additions to the normal options. However, in all three campaigns under "Special Reserve Rolls", it states that "normal rules are used except for these rolls". I definitely remember Yangtze explaining in a post on these forums that (at least for his campaign) the special rolls truly replace the normal ones too, so that might be worth mentioning.

Also for the Reserve Rolls, you might want to change the Battle of Normandy Axis Flag+Star text that says "When rolled before The Breakout" to "When rolled during The Breakout", since Brummbär stated that's what it should say.

But overall, great work! Congrats for all your efforts with these guides! Very Happy

I talked with Brummbar about this question before finishing the document and we both referred to page 5 under "Special Reserve Rolls" where it says,
Quote:

individual Campaign notes may also provide for additional options on specific dice rolls.

I had seen the same thing you did and I also observed that every Campaign has a Flag+Star special option and a Star+Star option, which prompted me to ask why there are even any 'standard' options for those rolls, unless they're available as well as the special options. Rolling Eyes

Great idea! I didn't even think about putting them in the order you roll them (though I don't know why I didn't think of that). Thanks for the idea.

I'd also noticed that. I guess it's still good to have "default" options for future or user-made campaigns. Like all those tiles in the Terrain Pack that aren't used in any of its scenarios! Razz

Does the Vercors campaign use the default Reserve rolls?

While we're at that, I would find it nice to have a "Campaign scenario set-up list" or some such somewhere that displays all steps in order, something like:

1) Set-up scenario, but don't draw Command Cards
2) Make Victory Event Roll (if this isn't the first scenario of the Campaign)
3) Make Reserves Roll
4) Draw Command Cards
5) Play scenario

Don't know if I'm missing any there...

So an "Order of Operations" page? That would be pretty easy. I don't have time to look through the book right now, but it looks like you got the order pretty good. I'll look at how a document like that might work on paper... Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the suggestions!

Do it either like the move and range sheet you made for the kids at your club, or something like the Sequence of Play that is on the blank side of the breakthrough map that came with the Campaign map.
Those are my ideas.

Hi everyone,

You can find a new document to help facilitate your playing of the Campaign Book. I've created a document called the Campaign Book Order of Operations. It is available at the bottom of the Campaign Book page and outlines each step that players need to follow while they are enjoying the Campaign system.

Thank you to everyone who helped edit and revise this document. Enjoy and keep playing! Very Happy

Hi Jesse, enough with the supplements now!

Make us another Campaign Book!

On a more serious note, great work as always.

Thanks for another great set of resources. I like all of it, especially the order of operations. The when I played my first two campaigns, I was always looking back at the book for the order. Now I have a handy sheet to look at. Thanks again!

My pleasure, guys! Enjoy. Smile

I've posted a different version of the Campaign Book Order of Operations if players want. It's on my User Page down under the Campaign Book Projects section. This version has all of the same information as the one posted on in the Campaign Book page of the DoW site but the info is all condensed into a half page...and then flipped the other way so the Order of Operations is facing each player.

My hope is that these documents help you play the Campaign System and make the process even more enjoyable! Have fun! Cool
