Thanks, looks like a good one. Might have to try it with the breakthrough map from the Campaign map.

Is the italian unit with the engineer badge supposed to follow the rules for Combat engineer(troop 4) or do they work like regular infantry?

Hey thanks a bunch for the NEW toys!!!

Are the British armor units limited to 2 hexes of movement or may they move 3 hexes?

When Night Attacks and Air attacks (or air rules) are in the same scenario (such as this one), at which visibilty level can you commence air attacks/air sorties? Since the history section makes it pretty clear that it had to be daytime before the RAF could see the attacking troops. "At sunrise, the RAF takes to the skies, strafing Rommel?s columns."

Since it says that the North African Desert rules are in effect (Actions 9 - North African Desert Rules), armor can move an extra hex after Armor Overrun. However, Blitz rules are not in effect, so all Armor units move normally.

EDIT: I originally wrote that Axis could only more the extra hex...actually any Armor unit can take an extra hex.

Air Attack and Barrage cards cannot be played until you have reached full visibility on the chart. This rule is outlined in the Night Attack section on page 8 of the Pacific Theater rule book.

The Gamecard DB (and the mediterrean rules) does not specify that only AXIS armour can gain the extra hex, instead it says "On a successful close assault, Armour...". Which version is correct?

Thank you for catching my mistake...any Armor unit can move an extra hex after their attack. I have fixed it in my original post! Nice work. Cool

Is this game played with two Command Card decks? The Air Rules reference suggests one deck but we know the 15 new Breakthrough sceanrios were play-tested with two decks combined.

Judging by the victory medals count and number of Axis units involved this is an Overlord scale game, so two packs would seem appropriate. That's good because I've bought a second deck in preperation for the Breakthrough Kit! Smile

Eric said to use two decks "Because playtests by Richard's team showed it can lead to more interesting (ie fun) card distribution in this context."

That doesn't necessarily mean that they only playtested it with two decks or that it must have two decks...it just means that they tried playing Breakthrough battles with 2 decks and it was fun!!

Think of it like the Air Rules; they are recommended for many battles and the planes can add a lot of fun, but they aren't required. I believe the 2 deck suggestion can be used for any Breakthrough battle.

Hey Stig,
No Italian engineers listed. I guess that is just a fancy badge for the forward Italian unit.

The scenario rules state:
Quote:

Place a badge on the two German engineer units (Troops 4 - Combat Engineers).

European copies should ship as scheduled, around April 30. US copies have to cross the ocean first, unfortunately.

Personally, I'll be playing with the Italian engineers as marked on the map. It may just be an error of omission because looking at the layout of troops, that Italian Engineer is the only way to remove mines on that flank.

Hey guys,
I did enlarge the images and found that the forward fancy badge is in fact an Italian Engineer badge. I am with you Rasmussen, that is how I would play it too, until someone tells me differently.

The Badge is included in the Terrain pack and found on pages 13-14 of that Rules manual.

The above statement in bold and blue refers to Overlord battles, but that should say Breakthrough battles.

Hello all,
Just a word to say that there is a typing error in the english translation about the special rules : The combat engineers rules are for German and Italian engineers. In French, it's correct but in English, it's wrong for the time. This error should be corrected soon. Sorry for that.
Jdrommel.

Just finished playing solo the scenario, very well done! Very Happy
12-10, Axis victory

Key to victory is thoughtful deployment of armored forces for both sides.

P.S. What did happen with your Prokhorovka scenario, JdRommel?

What is up with the ? marks - seems some of them should be ' and others, who knows what they should be.

i.e...first line :

"El Alamein, mid-August 1942 ?" <-- ? = what?

I believe it's a result of copy and paste from a different format. Luckily we're sharp and realized they don't belong there, but I'm sure you can still understand it! Laughing Razz

I wouldn't be surprised to see these in the "Classified" format when they do come back online. That way we can post AARs on them but we still need to buy the expansion to enjoy all the fun. Cool

I guess they won't be classified, unless they are included in the new Breakthrough expansion. As they were still online after the expansion was released, I guess they will be just re-posted in the Official Scenarios section.

What scenarios are you talking about? Rolling Eyes

If a Breakthrough scenario was taken offline by jdrommel or Days of Wonder, it most likely means that it was used in the Breakthrough Kit expansion...which means it will be printed officially in the expansion and may be "Classified" when it is put back online.

If you're talking about other Breakthrough scenarios that have disappeared, I would say you need to talk to the creators and find out why they took the scenario down. Razz

This scenario requires minefields from the TP, MT and +1 mine (preferably from the EF, as it has also an "Achtung Minen" text on it).

That would be a bit of a shame if lots of the new scenarios in the breakthrough kit turn out to be old SFTFs that have been officialised - there aren't exactly hundreds of breakthrough scenarios knocking about

still, hopefully once everyone gets their kits, there will be a sudden explosion of new user-created breakthrough battles to play...

Based on what we've seen, I believe there are only a few Breakthrough scenarios that were briefly on jdrommel's User Page but were made official with this expansion. The vast majority of the expansion scenarios will be brand new, never-before-seen battles! Cool

I agree that we'll see an explosion of user created Breakthrough battles when everyone gets their kit...the question will be whether people take the time to playtest their creations before posting them! Both Richard and Brummbar pointed out in the FAQ that to make a good scenario you have to playtest it a bunch, and solo plays don't count; I hope players take that to heart and take the time to make high quality Breakthrough scenarios! I made only one scenario so far because its off the liberation of my home town.
Maybe it doesn't apeal to most players , because its based on facts , and i think most players like an even balance when they play a battle.
So for those who like something original for a breakthrough scenario you can find my breakthrough map on my user page and some pictures of the bunker featured in it.

Good point - this is the major reason none of my scenarios ever make the SFTF list, I only really play solo or against my wife, and I can't really submit her to enough plays of the same scenario to playtest it properly Sad
