Two Tricky parts for me Tue, 30 March 2010 09:55
Hi, we have played 7-8 games since we bought the game, and every time we discover that there is something incorrect in our game play:)

Questions:

1. At the end of each phase the black ships moves clockwise to the next island. Question is: If it finds a human ship there will the LP attack it as well during phase 6? Or no combat will take place in the 6th stage of each round?

2. If somebody sends a Royal Navy Intercept card to my island...will I be able to send it to another island as well with the second Royal Navy Intercept Card?

3. If I am playing "A Fond Farewell Card" can somebody play a "Royal Navy Intercept" card after I have played it? Basically if so, I have a useless card...

Thanks for reading my thread:)

Here's your answers:

1. Combat occurs only during "Phase 3:Combat". Since the black ship moves to the next island during phase 6, there is no combat if it comes across a player's ship. It's easier to remember this, if after Upgrade (Phase 5), every player moves their ship to the lower right corner of the board, as if they have sailed off the islands after plundering them.

2. If someone sends the Royal Navy against you, you can send it to another island by playing the "Privateering commission" card only. If you play the second Royal Navy Intercept card, then it is supposed to be TWO different Royal Navy ships, which must be both dealt with.

3. I believe it is possible for someone to play Royal Navy after you have played "A Fond Farewell". I wouldn't consider it useless though. At least, not when these cards are played in reverse order (someone plays Royal Navy on you, and you respond with the Fond Farewell card).

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your answers harrmeg. I have lately played exactly like this, the only little problem I have is if there can be 2 Royal Navy ships at the same time.

I would consider it normal to be only one ship in a turn since there is only one card of Royal Navy present in the stack.

I'm almost 100% sure I've read this answer somewhere else but can't remember where... The Royal Navy card is there just to show its attributes. It doesn't mean that only one Royal Navy may attack per round. It wouldn't make much sense after all, that the Royal Navy consists of a single ship!
