New base game - does it worth?

I'm planning on a new order from DoW in May, which would include the Breakthrough Expansion. And I have been thinking - does it worth ordering a new base game, if the hexes of the old one are losing color and dice are worn out (and of course, OL is enjoyed the most, when all figures are actually FIGURES ).
So, what do you say?

I use the OO expansion. What I do is use half figs and half chits when I set up an overlord game. We also take casualties in chits first. I like the O-O expansion, especially the new overlord cards! They make the whole thing worth it.

I am going to go for a second basegame very soon, and I do it to play the D-Day landings in Overlord format, and also to have more Overlord scenarios available.
I own one of everything for Memoir'44 and I haven't had problems using the chits on the battlemaps so far, but figures is always cool.
And since half of the Battlemap scenarios include Russians I fear I will buy another Eastern Front before long.
But if a second Basegame is worth it for you, I can't tell you. Only you can make that decision.
And we both know that you would love to have more scenarios for f2f games and have figures instead of chits.

I own four base sets and one of everything else, so I am the wrong person to get advice from.

Wow!!! Four?! What do you need that many for?
Granted, I shouldn't be talking...I have 8 sets, though 6 of those are for playing with students.

Well, Szili, you're more of a purist than I am. I have no problem playing the greens and blues against the browns and tans. (I might draw the line at 1/72 ballerinas for SF infantry, but then again, I might not.)
Total up your order without it -- in pencil -- and start to put it in an envelope. If you find yourself regretting that you didn't include a second base game, then add it to the order.

I'm a huge fan of both Memoir '44 and the Axis & Allies (L.Harris)board game series and have picked-up multiple sets of each over the years. I mostly play solo these days but always use the smaller scaled A&A miniatures as they don't obscure the terrain tiles as much. This may be off the thread some but we also enjoy supersized overlord and breakthrough games laid out on a 4x6' felt sheet with 2" hexes laid on a ping pong table. As we tend to add a third or more terrain tiles and units to the game and may run short of models we use the mini-poker chips under a model A&A style.

I play a lot of A&A miniatures and when I need more figures I pull from that game - especially for elite units. I also have BattleLore and the M44 board is compatible for Overlord games. I don't know if I will ever buy a second base set, but I will probably get the OL expansion for the cards.

How about giving us a picture of your super-size overlord game?

I finally got my second basic set last week. I bought the OL Exp. a long time ago but never could stand those chits. the extra dice and cards made the expansion still worth it, but every time we played an OL game I had to tell a friend to bring his copy of the game so we could get all the figures in plastic.
Now I don't have to hassle him any more, and I'm not dependant on him showing up either.
And having two rule-books is also nice... even when you're not playing OL games.
I'm glad I made this purchase... should have been done a long time ago.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a whole new set, unless the fading was so bad that it was hard to see the terrain.
But then again, I've been wearing the same winter coat for the past 17 years, even though I could easily afford to buy a new one, so my opinion on this may not be reliable.

games ), and no, chits from the OO expansion aren't annoying. So does it worth getting a new one for better visual effects?

I strongly feel that getting rid of the OO-chits will go a LONG way to create "better visual effects"... but hey, if it's just the dice and hexes you are after I'd be prepared to buy the plastic from you.
And NO I probably wouldn't buy it for the dice (and hexes) only. I'd buy a second Dice set, maybe a second Command Deck if that was worn out. This leaves only the hexes... no... would not buy a full game for that only.

Sometimes it is annoying when there are white dots on hexes. Not the cards and dice are the main reason for purchasing this, but hexes and figures for better visual effect (in both f2f and OL).

Sounds like you just need to sit down with your money and have a serious talk about what you're going to use it for!
In the end, it sounds like you don't need to get another base game so it comes down to what you want to use your money for...good luck in the decision; none of us can make that choice for you (though many of us would go ahead and get the second base set...it's only money after all!)
