Or is this over the top...
Thanks,

Personally, I won't ever play a Breakthrough Overlord battle. Breakthrough battles already take up to 2 hours...Overlord Battles can take at least that long. Put them together and you would be playing 4+ hours on one battle.
While some players might like that amount of setup, that amount of time playing the same battle, and while some players have the sets to play it with, I don't think I would want to. Who knows if DoW will ever think it could be a popular enough option to create an expansion for it...

Thanks for that!
That was my feeling too but I just wanted to make sure.
Cheers,

Hello Bart,
Why not a breakthrouhg overlord, i can follow the idea of Randwulf.
We could put several scenario's together for instand, omaha beach with Saint mère l'église, pointe du hoc.
Then you can start at night with the dropping of the para troops, once daylight comes we start the landings.
It would take several hours to play the game indeed but tacticly I think it can be very intersting, espacily playing two angainst two.
See you later one of these day's.

Overlord Breakthrough isn't for me because I don't have the time or inclination to spend the time it would take to set up a battle that big, plus the several hours it would take to play a battle that big. One of my favorite aspects of Memoir '44 is that I can set up and play a battle in less than an hour.
With Breakthrough, or Overlord, the setup takes a little longer and the battle can take quite a bit longer...but it still feels relatively short. I'm only speaking for myself, but I wouldn't be interested in an Overlord Breakthrough expansion.

I'd love to see Breakthrough Overlord - but not just yet. I want to get and play through the new kit first.
I love the M44 system, and for me it really springs to life with the Overlord scenarios. Can't wait to get some table time with Breakthrough. Combining them would make a rather nice (but suitably short) Monster Game.
Hmm, maybe this is what Richard had planned all along... and it's just taken this long to get everything in place...

I think a Breakthrough in a campaign would be nice. Sevral small battles around one big attack. Battle of the bulge, maybe?

My dining table isn't big enough for breakthrough overlord - and there's no way that my knees could cope with a battle that long on the floor!
such awkward practicalities aside, it's an interesting concept, but I can see it just being too much, taking too long to setp up and play. One of the advantages of Memoir over many WWII wargames out there, is the simplicity and accessability. Can't see a 4-hour monster version retaining much of that.

ad79, I think that this would be a wonderful Idea for one of the conventions I attend. I am attending one on the first weekend of June. I don't have even one breakout set yet, so I'll have to wait. I play a lot of overlord at conventions, and at a con in November, I'll have three campaigns playing at one time!

This is for sure something I'll do at some point. The quick games are a huge draw for M44, to be sure, but every once in a while I jones for something truly epic. A full afternoon spent on one major battle, preferably one with a number of objectives and lots of troop movement.
If I have one niggle with M44, it's that I don't always get a grand scale sense of troop movement. In standard games you're in combat on pretty much your first move. The strategy is very small scale in nature. That's often very APPEALING and is one of the reasons I like the game, but sometimes it's not what I'm after. Sometimes I want to be Patton driving a spear deep into enemy lines.
That the C&C/M44 game system is flexible enough to allow this is pretty great.
