Also, we'll try to reply to questions as they come. Please keep in mind that the iPad isn't even shipping yet, and that we'll all know a lot more in the coming weeks as players begin to discover this truly magical device.

This being said:

- For now, our focus is on creating a very transparent, intimate digital board gaming experience. The iPad (not your computer, nor mine or anyone else) is the only device we've seen this far that permits that. When you play Small World for iPad, you sit around the device with friends and soon realize that you do not even notice or remember you're playing on an electronic device. It's like a real board map, only a lot smarter and more immersive Wink

- We have a lot of work still ahead of us just to bring the current release up to the level of what has already been released as a board game. The current version (0.9) is still missing ghouls and sorcerers, as well as the Berserk special power (and Diplomats, but in a 2 player game, you could argue it's not a miss).

- The next set of races we implement will likely be those already released as physical expansions (ie Cursed! and Grand Dames of Small World).

- The number of players we can comfortably up this to is unknown yet. We need to spend more time studying people's play patterns and interaction with the iPad in various settings.

- We suspect there will be plenty of demand for PC/web-based versions. Those will probably come in time, but will likely be a different model and experience than Small World for the iPad (and there's very little code likely to be reusable, as a result).

- If we were to introduce new powers or additional expansions (which you shouldn't read as a promise) that haven't been announced yet, they will likely be available for the board game at the same time (if not earlier) as for the iPad. The only case where we might not do so is if there was a power that was only practical on the iPad (because of computing/bookkeeping issues and the like).

- The $4.99 price is an introductory one.

Thanks, I hope this game comes to PC. This makes me want an iPad, but I would prefer a game where I can play with more people. I am a bit of a sucker for Smallworld, so I will probably go check out the iPad when it comes to Canada.

Having a lot of fun with this app. I do have two requests though - can we get a save game that will save an in-progress game if we need to "pause". I would also like to be able to go back to the rules and take a peek without quitting Smile

They've already said that the iPhone and iPod Touch are too small for this app. Sorry.

Yes, we're working on these (and many other improvements) right as I write these. Should arrive with the next update, I hope.

Yes, we will be adding single player mode later on; but to be honest it's still likely to be a couple of months away: there's a lot of things we still need to code to implement this the way we'd like to.

What I promise is that we will keep you all posted through this forum, and that there will continue to be frequent updates improving many things over the coming weeks and months.

I'd also like to chime in and say "Great app!" I was thrilled to see it available.

My wishlist for the future would be for networked multiplayer in a play-by-email fashion similar to how it's done in the iPhone game UniWar. It requires a server to coordinate, but it's a great way to do turn based multiplayer.

Again, great job, and I look forward to seeing more DoW apps in the future.

I love the new update and I am really excited that you guys will continue to make it better over the next months including the AI.

I was wondering why you guys chose Small World over Ticket to Ride though -- it seems like you have a huge audience for that including online play. In any case I love this app and hope this is the first of many! I do wish I could load the online version on my iPad though Smile

Thanks for all the long hours on Small World!!!

Small World was easier than Ticket to Ride and a better demonstration of what the iPad can do, simply because there is (almost) no hidden information in Small World, where as in Ticket to Ride you have to hide your hand of cards from other players (which implies either also owning one iPod/iTouch per player or playing against online opponents, not what we wanted to showcase in our first iPad app).

It was very nice of Steve Jobs to make a computer that was designed specifically for Small World! Nice work coordinating with him on this one!!! Very Happy Laughing

Small World is perfect for this computer interface and shows off its ability nicely. Cool

Love the iPad App!

Pros:
1) Plays smoothly!
2) Beautiful graphics!
3) Manages all the counting and token moving!
4) Great Price!

Cons:
1) Can't abandon a territory.
2) When I over-extend my Amazons on attacking, I don't get to decide which 4 are removed from the board.
3) When entering player names, it should default to first letter capitalized, rather than user having to hit shift key.

Wish List:
1) AI (big surprise, eh)
2) Online Multiplayer
3) Mac, PC, and Web versions, as with TtR, that are compatible with the iPad version - avoid Adobe Flash
4) iPad TtR that is compatible with Mac, PC, and Web version
5) Is it possible that people could redeem their DoW webcodes for a credit for this and future games? I've got extra codes waiting to be redeemed for something. :-/

This totally makes sense.

For future development, I'd still want a single-user TtR interface for playing online. Apparently that means rewriting a lot of code to avoid flash, but I'd love to play on my living room couch, rather than at my computer.

Also, I like how you implemented the points in Small World. I can cup my hand around the corner, tap the VP icon, see my points, and tap it again, hiding my points from my opponent. Well done!

Multiple language support (Dutch, Spanish, Japanese), the Sorcerers race, numerous fixes (including scoring). Unfortunately the App is taking a bit longer to be approved than earlier updates.

Single player mode couldn't make it in version 0.99 (because 0.99 was submitted a while back, despite not being approved yet) but is planned for the follow-up 1.0 release. Very Happy

Hey, I just got the update! Thanks a bunch. Does your comment on single-player mean it's finished and you'll be submitting that update very soon? Can't wait!

No version 1.0 is not finished yet, I was referring to version 0.99, which just got approved.

As for 1.0, we're still working on it. We will keep you posted once it's on its way.
